The City of Lamar, Colorado is looking for a creative communicator who can help capture the people, projects, and moments that shape our city.
We’re hiring a Communications and Public Relations Specialist — a storyteller who can turn information into engaging content and help connect local government with the community it serves.
If you’re a journalist, digital media professional, videographer, or communications specialist who believes good communication strengthens communities, this could be the role for you.
In this position, you’ll help residents stay informed, build trust in local government, and bring Lamar’s story to life through video, social media, digital platforms, events, and media outreach.
What This Role Looks Like One day you might be producing a short video highlighting a community project.
The next, you could be livestreaming a City Council meeting, writing a news release, or helping residents understand an important issue affecting the city.
You’ll help shape how Lamar communicates with the public by:
Creating engaging multimedia stories, videos, and digital content
Managing the City’s social media and online communications
Working with local media and responding to press inquiries
Livestreaming City Council meetings and other public events
Helping plan community engagement events
Supporting communication during major projects, emergencies, or important public issues
You’ll work closely with the City Administrator and departments across the organization to ensure residents receive clear, timely, and transparent information.
Who We’re Looking For
A strong writer and storyteller
Comfortable working with video, social media, and digital platforms
Curious about the community and the people who live here
Able to translate complex information into clear, engaging communication
Passionate about helping local government connect with the public
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
3–5 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or digital media
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Compensation Salary Range: $55,640 – $76,731 annually
Starting salary is based on experience and qualifications and typically falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
FLSA Status: Exempt
