
Social Media Editorial & Marketing Content Creator

Sightline Media Group (a leading publisher in defense, government, and technology news) and Sunset Publishing (a preeminent voice in Western lifestyle) are seeking a
dynamic ON-CAMERA storyteller and social media producer
to create engaging, personality-driven content across major social platforms.
The ideal candidate is comfortable
appearing on camera, translating news into compelling short-form video, and producing platform-native content for TikTok, Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, and emerging channels.
This person will regularly create social video explainers tied to breaking news, trends, and major stories.
In addition to on-screen work, this person will collaborate with our newsroom and marketing teams to help distribute stories, develop social posts, track performance analytics, and grow our digital audiences. This role will create reels, images, write social chatter, and pull reporting, everything in between.
Because our teams are lean, we’re looking for someone who enjoys
owning the full social content process : pitching ideas, scripting, filming, editing, publishing posts, analyzing performance, and collaborating closely with our newsroom and marketing teams.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a
primary on-screen voice
for social platforms, delivering short-form news explainers, reactions, and commentary tied to major stories and trends.
Translate complex topics (defense, technology, business, culture, and lifestyle) into
clear, engaging, social-first video content .
Host and produce short video segments for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, and other platforms.
Develop repeatable social video formats such as
news explainers, rapid headlines, trend breakdowns, and story recaps.
Social Post + Video Production
Write scripts, film, and edit short-form social video content optimized for each platform.
Produce supporting assets including captions, graphics, thumbnails, and social text.
Work with marketing, editorial and video teams to identify stories that are well suited for social video formats.
Experiment with emerging formats and trends to keep content fresh and engaging.
Social Content & Distribution
Publish and manage posts across major platforms including X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and emerging channels.
Develop social posts, reels, and visual assets that extend the reach of newsroom reporting.
Maintain a social content calendar to ensure consistent and strategic publishing.
Analytics & Audience Growth
Track and analyze social media performance metrics including views, engagement, follower growth, and video completion rates.
Use insights to refine content strategy and identify high-performing formats.
Monitor trending topics and conversations that present opportunities for timely video content.
Work closely with editorial to identify stories suitable for social storytelling and ensure stories are posted with accuracy.
Help amplify investigative projects, major reporting initiatives, and breaking news across social platforms.
Coordinate with internal teams to align social strategy with editorial priorities.
Required Qualifications & Skills Experience
Bachelor’s degree in
Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or Media
is preferred.
1-3 years of experience in
social media, journalism, digital video, or on-camera content creation .
Experience appearing
on camera for social or digital platforms strongly preferred .
Comfortable speaking on camera and delivering clear, engaging social video segments.
Strong understanding of how to
translate news and information into social-friendly formats .
Ability to write concise scripts and deliver information with clarity and personality.
Technical & Creative Skills
Experience filming and editing short-form video (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, CapCut, or similar tools).
Familiarity with graphic tools such as Canva or Photoshop.
Knowledge of social media analytics platforms and native social insights.
Industry Awareness
Interest in news, technology, business, defense, or lifestyle topics.
Ability to identify trending topics and quickly create relevant social content.
Work Style
Highly collaborative and comfortable working in a newsroom environment.
Ability to move quickly on breaking news and social trends.
