BRIEF DESCRIPTION/ POSITION SUMMARY
The Musical Technical Director (TD) is responsible for the technical oversight and safety of the high school musical production. This role involves transforming artistic visions into reality by managing lighting, sound, and stage management. The TD serves as a mentor to student crews, fostering a hands‑on learning environment while ensuring all deadlines are met for opening night.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Management: Oversee the installation and operation of lighting plots, sound reinforcement (wireless mics and pit balance), and special effects.
Student Mentorship: Lead the "Stage Crew" by teaching students how to program light boards, mix and balance sound cues, and execute scene shifts
Safety Compliance: Ensure the theater remains a safe working environment, adhering to all school district safety protocols and fire codes.
Rehearsal & Performance Support: Attend technical rehearsals and "strike" (post-show teardown) to oversee the mechanical aspects of the show.
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
SKILLS: Ability to manage and inspire high school students with varying levels of experience. Organizational skills and initiative for working with minimal direct supervisors. Proven ability to manage a production calendar and meet hard deadlines. Must show evidence of strong leadership and organizational skills.
KNOWLEDGE: Strong background in theatrical lighting and digital audio consoles. Previous successful experience in sponsorship/mentoring preferred. Substantial knowledge in the area of student support, as well as familiarity with student discipline and safety protocols.
ABILITY: Establish and maintain positive and supportive working relationships with all stakeholders to be flexible and change as needed. A "team player" attitude to work closely with the entire production team.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Previous experience in educational theater or community theater production
