Amazon Publishing is seeking an innovative, passionate, market‑savvy Acquisitions Editor to acquire across commercial fiction genres, with a primary focus on mystery, thriller, and suspense novels and short fiction. The role requires discovering and acquiring exceptional content, managing author and agent relationships, and collaborating with marketing, publicity, production, and author relations teams to deliver quality books and world‑class author experiences in a fast‑paced environment that demands flexibility, creativity, and a sense of humor.
Key Job Responsibilities
Identify, evaluate, and develop submissions, projects, and proposals to acquire for our commercial fiction imprints.
Monitor trend and sales data.
Apply strong analytical thinking paired with excellent editorial sensibility.
Demonstrate a strong track record of discovering, developing, and publishing bestselling titles and authors.
Work closely with authors to develop their work and careers.
Collaborate with internal teams to shepherd work from manuscript through publication and beyond.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with literary agents.

Basic Qualifications
Experience managing multiple projects and meeting aggressive deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication of complex concepts.
Experience working in a fast‑paced, team environment.
Strong track record of discovering, developing, and publishing bestselling titles and authors.
Strong negotiation skills and knowledge of standard publishing contracts and P&Ls.
Demonstrated analytical thinking paired with excellent editorial sensibility.
Fluent in all office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Salesforce.
Preferred Qualifications
Broad list of agent contacts.
5+ years of content acquisition and/or content development experience.
Familiarity with ETL, SQL, and handling/analyzing data.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
