Details: CBS 17, the Nexstar station in Raleigh, is looking for an experienced Producer to live and work in one of the best places to live in America. Salary range is 42k-55k based on experience, plus relocation. Opportunity for advancement. Five CBS 17 producers have been promoted to Executive Producer in the last five years. We’re looking for passionate candidates with strong news judgment, the ability to showcase important stories, and who know how to win “Breaking News and Weather”. Our producers help craft the station's daily content, work with the assignment desk, our crews in the field, and our digital team. Candidates must have a BA in Journalism and a minimum of 2 years Producer experience at a network affiliate. Responsibilities
Be creative and create compelling and memorable newscasts
Write compelling headlines and teases
Maintain working knowledge of current events, weather, community issues, and local contacts
Search wire services, network feeds, websites, and social media to find relevant material for newscasts
Collaborate with staff to build graphics
Work with directors and anchors on presentation of stories
Clear, concise, conversational writing skills
Excellent communication skills necessary for collaboration with digital desk, anchors, reporters and other newsroom staff during breaking news
Demonstrate solid news judgment
Maintain strong journalistic ethics
Strong initiative and attention to detail
Research and brainstorm story ideas, present ideas in editorial meetings
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Assist producers in formatting other newscasts
Essential Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of newsroom software
Knowledge of web posting software
Strong research skills, including online research using various search engines
Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
Ability to work independently with little supervision
Demonstrate leadership through training and mentoring less experienced staff members; guide others to get the desired outcome
Ability to remain positive and foster a positive work environment; work well with co‑workers
Edit video and audio on industry standard equipment
Handle and adjust to last‑minute changes
Make quick, accurate decisions during the on‑air process
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work‑related experience
Fluency in English
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Minimum two years’ experience in news operations (Depending on market size)
Proficiency with computers, and experience with newsroom software like ENPS is a plus.
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Flexibility to work any shift
