Overview
We are partnering with a market-leading global freight forwarder to hire a Customs Entry Writer for their growing team in Salt Lake City, Utah . This role is ideal for a detail-oriented customs professional who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment and has strong knowledge of U.S. import regulations and customs documentation.
The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for preparing and submitting accurate customs entries, ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, and supporting the efficient movement of international shipments for a diverse client base.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and submit customs entries for import shipments in compliance with U.S. Customs regulations.
Review commercial documents including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and other import documentation.
Classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and determine appropriate duties, taxes, and fees.
Ensure accurate valuation, country of origin, and admissibility requirements for imported goods.
Communicate with importers, carriers, government agencies, and internal operations teams to resolve documentation or clearance issues.
Track shipments through the customs clearance process and proactively address delays or discrepancies.
Maintain compliance with CBP regulations and company SOPs.
Support post-entry processes, including amendments, corrections, and recordkeeping.
Stay up to date with changes in customs regulations, trade compliance requirements, and import procedures.
Qualifications
2+ years of experience in customs brokerage, import operations, or freight forwarding.
Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and import documentation.
Experience preparing customs entries using brokerage or freight forwarding systems.
Familiarity with the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification.
Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working for a freight forwarder or customs brokerage.
Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) is a plus but not required.
Experience with ABI filing systems or customs entry software.
