SEASONAL MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR – (PARKS STEWARD PROGRAM) – DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, RECREATION AND CEMETERY – CITY OF WORCESTER
The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the
Seasonal Maintenance Director
for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cemetery. Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Coordinator, the position will work for the Parks Steward Program and is responsible for supervising, planning, and implementing comprehensive Park maintenance for the community. This individual will have leadership responsibility of the seasonal park maintenance staff, including organizing, staffing, training, supervising, and evaluating staff performance. Work is performed in accordance with standard park maintenance practices and procedures. The position will supervise all part-time, and seasonal park maintenance staff. This is a seasonal position, with an approximate end date of August 31, 2026. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
Oversee the daily operations of the seasonal maintenance program to ensure assigned work details are being performed and safety protocols are followed Assist with general landscaping duties and removal of trash from assigned areas Complete weekly time sheets, work details, and record keeping Operate small machine equipment (lawn mowers, trimmers, & leaf blowers) Instruct seasonal crew supervisors and maintenance workers in proper operation of equipment Perform work in accordance with City of Worcester standard park/cemetery maintenance practices & procedures Respond appropriately to situations requiring first-aid Perform manual tasks requiring some physical exertion REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions Ability to interact with patrons and the general public in a proper and professional manner Ability to respond to emergency situations Ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical exertion Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to work within wooded areas, on trails and in minimally accessible areas Ability to perform basic administrative tasks Experience working with handheld radios and operating communication systems Basic administrative abilities to write Incident and Injury Reports Experience with Microsoft Office Suite programs Ability to work up to forty (40) hours per week MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role with general maintenance or landscaping projects Two (2) years of experience in custodial work Experience with basic administrative duties Valid Driver’s License Must be at least 18 years of age Must be able to pass CORI/SORI background checks PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree in a related field Three (3) years of experience in general maintenance and/or landscaping Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory role with general maintenance or landscaping projects Basic understanding of reading and interpreting geographic maps/street maps Experience working with handheld radios and operating communication systems Basic administrative abilities to write Incident and Injury Reports Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite programs Certified in First Aid and CPR/AED STARTING SALARY:
