Position Overview The Associate Development Officer, Special Events & Campaigns is a key member of the Development team, supporting statewide fundraising efforts centered around our locations in Boston, Bridgewater, and Worcester. This role leads the planning and execution of signature fundraising events, special events, and annual campaigns that advance ESMA’s mission and fuel organizational growth. The Associate Development Officer manages all aspects of assigned initiatives—from creative concept development and multi‑channel logistics to budget oversight and committee coordination—ensuring each effort is mission‑aligned, well‑executed, and donor‑focused.

Essential Functions Event Strategy & Execution

Lead the planning and execution of signature events, including capital campaign gatherings, donor appreciation receptions, and community engagement events.

Serve as the primary point of contact and on‑site lead for assigned events, overseeing all logistics from planning through completion.

Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and annual event calendars to support multiple concurrent initiatives.

Fundraising Campaigns & Revenue Growth

Plan and execute revenue‑generating campaigns such as Giving Days, Week of Giving, and Friends of the Barn to achieve annual fundraising goals.

Support sponsor outreach, ticket sales, and the solicitation of in‑kind donations.

Design and implement post‑event stewardship strategies that convert one‑time participants into recurring donors.

Collaboration & Donor Engagement

Partner with the Development and Marketing teams to create cohesive digital and print materials, ensuring brand‑consistent messaging across event promotions and social media.

Work with event committees and Regional Boards to define creative themes, strategic goals, and fundraising objectives.

Coordinate donor cultivation activities, including campus tours, informational sessions, and small‑group engagement events.

Data, Budgeting & Administration

Track event expenses, process invoices, and reconcile costs within Raiser’s Edge to maintain accurate budget oversight.

Utilize Raiser’s Edge to generate reports, analyze donor trends, and identify high‑potential segments for increased engagement.

Record donor interactions and engagement history accurately to support long‑term stewardship efforts.

Manage general administrative responsibilities related to events, including inventory, storage areas, and office supplies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or a related field; equivalent experience or a combination of education and experience will be considered.

Minimum of two (2) years of successful nonprofit event planning and fundraising experience.

Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or similar donor management systems.

Strong mathematical, reading comprehension, and reasoning skills to manage budgets and complex projects.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends during peak event and campaign periods.

Willingness and ability to travel within Massachusetts; reliable transportation required.

General office environment with frequent event‑based activities.

Ability to sit, stand, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Occasional exposure to outdoor environments consistent with New England weather.

Event setup and breakdown responsibilities (e.g., tables, easels, signage, balloon tanks).
