Role Overview
The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and regulatory compliance of all pharmacy services within the hospital. This role ensures safe, effective, and cost‑efficient medication management systems that support psychiatric and substance use disorder treatment programs.
The Director of Pharmacy oversees pharmacy operations, formulary management, medication safety initiatives, regulatory compliance, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient outcomes.
Your Impact
- Ensure optimal pharmacy services that meet legal and accreditation/certification requirements and comply with all policies and standards for inpatient and outpatient delivery.
- Supervise pharmacy staff in their routine duties and maintain daily operations.
- Guarantee adequate staffing during all hours of operation.
- Provide clinical, technical, and customer‑service training for pharmacy staff.
- Review and update drug‑therapy guidelines and policies for physicians, nurses, and pharmacists.
- Supply drug information to physicians and nurses via direct contact or in‑service programs.
- Prepare reports and maintain records as required by the CEO.
- Stay current on drug therapies, interactions, and adverse reactions through professional literature, seminars, and affiliations.
- Maintain patient medication records.
- Monitor drug therapy for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.
- Provide patient information and counseling.
- Interpret and fill drug orders.
- Participate in inventory control programs including ordering, inventorying, and monitoring.
- Use inventory reports to manage inventory turns.
- Resolve unsafe and unsanitary practices.
- Attend and participate in programs, committees, meetings, and functions as directed by the CEO.
- Contact physicians regarding prescription questions or irregularities.
- Maintain controlled‑drug inventory and records in compliance with law.
- Deliver positive customer service and follow up on patient complaints.
- Collaborate with staff to enhance teamwork.
- Participate in developing and implementing the Performance Improvement Program.
- Maintain performance standards in accordance with established policies.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an ACPE‑accredited School of Pharmacy or equivalent required.
- Licensure: Currently licensed as a Pharmacist in the state of Texas required.
- Experience: Minimum three (3) years’ working experience in an inpatient/outpatient facility preferred.
- Additional Requirements: Working knowledge of JCAHO Standards, OSHA regulations, and relevant state and federal laws.
