Position Overview Chevron is seeking a Managing Editor, Newsroom who will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Chevron's Content Newsroom and how that content cascades into our broader integrated programs. Primary responsibilities for Newsroom include the management of the Newsroom's editorial and publishing calendars, making story assignments and leading a team of brand journalists and editors. Primary responsibilities for Integrated Strategy include developing communications strategy and content across the paid, owned and shared channels.
Key Responsibilities
Be responsible for day-to-day management of the Brand Newsroom, including managing the editorial and publishing calendars.
Manage a team of brand journalists, copy editors, designers. Act as the assigning editor, developing story ideas with the journalists, content strategists and Manager of Integrated Channels and Creative.
Set the global content plan and gain alignment across leadership, and key stakeholders.
Lead the Brand Newsroom team (content strategists, content creators, video producers, etc.) in the development of the plan.
Partner with internal Business Unit and Advocacy communications teams to ensure major moments, events and announcements are properly supported.
Work across disciplines (corporate channels, paid, owned, social, media relations, partnership & events, investor relations, etc.) and align content calendars.
Use and model an agile approach to content development.
Ensure the Newsroom stays on schedule and meets publishing commitments.
Partner with internal teams to leverage trendspotting, content insights, key learnings and analytics to inform the overall content strategy.
Ensure compliance and substantiation across the full scope of the Newsroom output.
Contribute in a hands‑on capacity including creating content, as needed.
Develop integrated communications strategies that connect business objectives to audience insights, channel planning, messaging, and measurement.
Build integrated content across owned, earned, paid, and shared media; define roles for each channel and ensure content is optimized per platform.
Partner with editors, creatives, social, paid media, and channel owners to shape story angles, content arcs, and distribution approaches.
Qualifications
10+ years' experience working in journalism, digital/media/publishing, newsroom environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
Experience setting the editorial strategy at large publication, website, and company—and leading a team of content creators to deliver against that strategy.
Experience leading and developing a team of writers, developers, and editors in an agile publishing environment.
Proven ability to work collaboratively and build consensus in multi-disciplinary teams; interacts effectively with leadership, peers, partners, and suppliers.
Experience developing digital content and online engagement strategies in bold, innovative, and unexpected ways.
Strong writing skills, attention to detail and good judgment in thoughtfully executing stories.
A portfolio of work that draws on expertise in innovation as well as both internal + external communications, with a demonstrated focus on external communications.
Experience navigating a Fortune 50 organization and working within strict guidelines.
Previous experience using rigorous data and analysis to determine success of campaign and ideate - how we can improve, and where do we go from here
