Business Banking Intern

cPort Credit Union, Portland, ME, United States


As the Business Banking/Lending Intern, you will work closely with the teams to support consumers and businesses in our community. This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in business lending, consumer lending, relationship management, and financial analysis while learning about the operations of a credit union.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in evaluating loan applications by analyzing financial statements, credit reports, and business plans.

Conduct research on local businesses and industries to support the development of customized financial solutions.

Shadow business banking officers during member meetings and prepare follow‑up summaries.

Help maintain and update customer records and loan documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., marketing, underwriting, and compliance) to support business banking initiatives.

Contribute to special projects, such as analyzing member business trends or assisting in the development of new products.

Provide administrative support, such as preparing reports, drafting correspondence, and organizing documentation.

Assist the consumer lending department with mortgage and consumer loan related projects.

Learn about vehicle titles, the loan system and a scanning system to archive loan files.

Qualifications

Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

Strong interest in commercial banking, financial analysis, and customer relationship management.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently on tasks.

Minimum of 30 hours a week.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of financial statements and credit principles is a plus.

Prior experience or coursework in banking, finance, or accounting is an advantage.
