Facilities Management (FM) at the University of Virginia has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Plumber who supports FM's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable maintenance and service to the University facilities in Housing. The Housing Zone provides facilities services to Housing and Residential Life (HRL) properties consisting of 8,000 beds distributed through 187 buildings, encompassing over 3 million square feet of occupied residential space. Our portfolio includes single-family homes, traditional residence halls, and apartments. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, FM is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, as well as other University-owned and leased properties. The Senior Plumber for Housing's 1st Year Area plays a key role in maintaining reliable plumbing systems that directly support the student living experience. Senior Plumbers operate with a high level of independence and technical skill, providing leadership and guidance to lower-level plumbers and trades staff. Work is focused on ensuring safe, dependable, and efficient plumbing systems that meet the unique demands of a large residential community. Responsibilities: Diagnose plumbing issues and perform repairs as required. Conduct preventative maintenance on all residential plumbing systems, updating and repairing as needed. Install, repair, and replace piping systems, hangers, fixtures, and support systems in compliance with applicable codes and UVA standards. Support a safe and functional living environment for 1st Year residents by ensuring timely and high-quality response to plumbing work orders. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior plumbers and trades staff. Communicate with Housing & Residence Life staff to update on job status, resident impacts, and timelines for repair completion. Ensure that safety practices and protective equipment are properly used at all times. Assist supervisors in coordinating daily work assignments within the Housing zone. Additional duties may be assigned to support Housing Facilities operations. Required Qualifications: Education:
High school diploma or equivalent Experience:
Minimum of seven years of plumbing experience. Experience in a residential, university, or multi-building environment preferred. Medical Gas experience a plus but not required. Licensure:
Journeyman or Master level plumbing license. Valid Driver's License with positive points balance and at least 2 years of driving history. Compensation: The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $29 - $34 per hour ($60,320 - $70,720 Annually), commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time non-exempt position with UVA benefits.
