Position Summary - Must currently live in San Diego

The Children’s Director leads and builds a Christ centered, safe, and excellent children’s ministry that partners with families to help kids know Jesus and grow as kingdom minded leaders. This role is both pastoral and operational, developing volunteers, stewarding systems, and ensuring children experience the love of God in age appropriate and engaging environments.

This role exists to support Anthem’s mission: to develop kingdom minded leaders who live out and multiply the way of Jesus.

Primary Responsibilities

Spiritual and Ministry Leadership Lead children to know, trust, and follow Jesus through clear, biblical, age appropriate teaching.

Create welcoming, grace filled environments where every child feels known and safe.

Pray regularly for children, families, and volunteers.

Align children’s ministry with Anthem’s discipleship pathway and overall church vision.

Program Oversight Plan and oversee weekly children’s ministry environments.

Evaluate and select curriculum that aligns with Scripture, Anthem’s theology, and developmental stages.

Teach weekly during both Sunday services.

Plan and lead special events as needed.

Ensure child safety, check in systems, and classroom flow are executed with excellence.

Volunteer Development Recruit, train, schedule, and care for children’s ministry volunteers. Step in when volunteers call out.

Ensure all volunteers are screened and trained according to church child protection policies.

Coach leaders through encouragement, feedback, and clear expectations.

Build a volunteer culture that is healthy, joyful, and sustainable.

Operations and Stewardship Manage the children’s ministry budget responsibly and transparently.

Order supplies and coordinate materials needed for weekly and special programming.

Partner with staff and ministry leaders to align calendars, communication, and systems.

Communicate clearly with parents regarding vision, policies, and upcoming events.

Qualifications

Character and Calling Evident love for Jesus and a clear calling to children’s ministry.

Alignment with Anthem’s vision, mission, values, and philosophy of ministry.

A servant leader who is teachable, responsible, and team oriented.

Skills and Experience Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent ministry experience is helpful.

Experience leading children’s ministry or related environments.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to recruit, lead, and multiply volunteers.

Comfortable with basic technology and planning tools.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with wisdom.

Salary based on experience: $50,000‑$60,000
