Position: Director of Residence Life and Housing Department: Student Life Status: Full Time Position Summary: The Director of Residence Life and Housing provides strategic leadership and vision for the university's residential experience. This role is responsible for creating and sustaining a safe, caring, and vibrant living environment where students grow and thrive. The Director oversees residential education, housing operations, facilities coordination, policy development, and staff supervision. The Director manages a team of professional and student staff and works closely with campus partners to ensure a seamless and student-centered residential experience. This position plays a key role in enhancing student retention and satisfaction through intentional residential programming, responsive operations, and nurturing environment focused on community and belonging.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Supervision

Lead the Department of Residence Life in setting goals, assessing outcomes, and enhancing overall program effectiveness

Supervise professional and student staff, including Associate and Assistant Directors, Area Coordinators, Operations Coordinators, Community Managers, and Resident Assistants, with responsibility for training, performance evaluation, and professional development.

Provide direction and oversight for housing operations including applications, assignments, move-in/move-out processes, damage billing, facility management, and key inventory. • Serve in 24-hour on-call rotation to provide crisis support for residential students and staff. Serve on the university’s Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT).

Foster an environment that support the university’s hallmarks of character, initiative, and calling.

Prepare and manage the annual operating budget for the office and all residential facilities.

Operations & Housing Management

Develop and implement housing policies, procedures, and contracts in alignment with institutional goals and legal standards.

Provide leadership to professional and student staff in managing room assignments, room changes, housing contracts, roommate meditation, and housing cancellations. • Manage records utilizing housing management software (RMS Mercury, Starrez, etc.) and other student records management software systems (TransAct, Colleague, Starfish, etc.).

Collaborate with Facilities Management staff to ensure housing is prepared and ready before and throughout each semester for students and overall maintenance issues are addressed. • Ensure effective and responsive communication with students and families regarding housing processes and deadlines.

Review housing policies, procedures, contracts, and software on an annual basis.

Oversee departmental marketing efforts, including website content and social media. • Respond to complex housing inquiries and concerns from students, families, and campus partners.

Campus Partnerships & Compliance

Work in partnership with admissions to strategically recruit new students to place into university housing.

Collaborate with other university departments to enforce residence hall regulations and monitor student conduct in the residence halls.

Serve as the liaison for Residence Life with departments and programs across campus. • Serve on University Faculty & Staff committees as requested. • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to; HIPAA, FERPA and other state and federal mandates.

Education/Experience:

Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel or related field

Five years’ experience of working in residence life on a college/university campus

Experience in developing, implementing and assessing strategic goals, objectives,and outcomes

Experience in a supervisory/administrative role

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Collaborative individual working with faculty and staff from a variety of university departments.

Ability to multitask and find creative solutions in a supervisory and autonomous environment

Strong organizational and problem solving skills

Experience utilizing housing management software (RMS Mercury, Starrez, etc.) and other student records management software systems (TransAct, Colleague, Starfish, etc.).

Comprehensive computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard

Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills needed to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators

Excellent leadership and supervisory skills

Familiarity with and ability to utilize current, common social media platforms

Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public.

Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.

Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours.
