Our boutique remote-first social media agency, October Social Media, specializes in providing social media and digital marketing solutions for brands in regulated industries and government agencies. Our services include social media strategy development, social media management, content creation, digital advertising, and social media training and governance.

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Crisis Communication Consultant to develop and implement crisis communication plans for our clients. This role is 90% remote, and is an on-going freelance, project based position that involves creating comprehensive crisis communication strategies tailored to social media platforms, ensuring our clients can effectively manage and navigate any potential crises.   • Develop and lead our Crisis Communications approach to managing Crisis Communications for clients.
  • Develop, plan, and implement crisis communication strategies for social media and other traditional channels.
  • Create detailed crisis communication plans, including pre-crisis planning, during-crisis response, and post-crisis evaluation.
  • Provide training and governance on crisis communication best practices to clients.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their unique needs and tailor strategies accordingly.
  • Manage and coordinate crisis communication efforts with internal agency teams and external client stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in crisis communication and social media.
  • Measure the effectiveness of crisis communication strategies and provide actionable insights for improvement.
  • Maintain detailed and organized documentation of all crisis communication plans and activities.

  • 5+ years of experience in crisis communication or a similar role, preferably within a corporation or government entity.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing crisis communication plans. A Certification or Degree in Crisis Comms is a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms and their role in crisis communication.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • Excellent time-management skills.
  • BS degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a relevant field.
  • Hands-on experience using social media for brand crisis management.
