Designer I
to support the production of the
Switchgear Division’s (SWGD)
industry-leading switchgear products. In this role, you will create technical drawings, 2D/3D models, and design documents that bring engineering concepts to life and ensure seamless manufacturing execution.
This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with engineers, production teams, and vendors to shape high-quality, reliable power solutions used across critical industries.
This position will report to the Switchgear Division Engineering Product Development Section Manager and is an
onsite position in Warrendale, PA .
What You’ll Do:
Create Technical Drawings: Prepare mechanical and electrical drawings and design documents for internal use and customer delivery.
Develop 2D & 3D Models: Produce accurate layouts and models in collaboration with Applications and Design Engineers.
Maintain Accurate Documentation: Create and update drawing files according to company procedures, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
Translate Engineering Concepts: Take design intent from engineering staff and develop complete drawings and documents that support efficient manufacturing—with minimal supervision.
Support Production: Work closely with SWGD production teams and external vendors to resolve design issues and ensure manufacturability.
Drive Product Improvements: Recommend engineering and design enhancements that reduce cost, improve quality, and increase manufacturing efficiency.
Train & Guide Others: Mentor less experienced designers and drafters to strengthen team capability.
Support Engineering Leadership: Assist Engineering management with design tasks and process improvements as needed.
Represent SWGD: Promote a positive, professional image of the division through timely and cooperative interaction with colleagues, visitors, and customers.
What You Bring:
Education:
Associate’s degree in Drafting or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years in a custom manufacturing environment.
Technical Expertise:
Advanced 3D modeling skills
Strong mechanical and electrical drawing proficiency
Ability to interpret and produce technical documentation
Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative team environment
Intermediate communication skills for working with internal teams and vendors
Technical Tools:
Advanced proficiency in CAD tools
Strong MS Office and ERP/MRP systems skills
