Role Description (Full Time) The Facilities Director is responsible for the care, maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and readiness of all church facilities, grounds, and equipment. This role combines active participation in facility operations–including maintenance, event support, and custodial tasks– with leadership and coordination of Facilities staff, volunteers, contractors, and vendors. This role is responsible for maintaining building systems, executing preventive maintenance, managing facility projects, and ensuring operational consistency across a growing, multi-building campus. The Facilities Director will lead staff and volunteers with clarity, accountability, and professionalism. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Operations & Facilities, this position functions within a clear leadership structure and is well-suited for a leader who values ownership, clarity, and strong professional partnership.
Job Qualifications, Experience, and Expectations
Experience in facility maintenance and building operations
Experience leading or supervising employees, volunteers, and/or contract labor
Preventive maintenance, repairs, and vendor coordination experience
Administrative experience, including scheduling, budgeting, and cross-department coordination
Experience in a church, nonprofit, or volunteer-driven environment preferred
Strong working knowledge of building systems and maintenance best practices
Ability to perform physical maintenance tasks, event setup work, and housekeeping duties Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
Team-oriented leadership style with a lead-by-example approach
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Proficient with scheduling software, office technology, and facility-related tools (Planning Center, Google Workspace)
Requires regular physical activity, including lifting, bending, climbing ladders, moving furniture, and operating tools and equipment.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and occasional evenings, in support of services and events. Sunday is a workday.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
Examples of Projects and Tasks
Serve as a working director who actively participates in daily facility operations while providing leadership and coordination.
Lead Facilities staff and volunteers through example and engagement.
Assist with recruitment, training, scheduling, and development of volunteer teams supporting facilities, events, and grounds.
Carry out preventive maintenance on a scheduled basis to reduce wear, prevent breakdowns, and extend the life of building systems.
Conduct routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance and safety concerns.
Troubleshoot system issues and complete in-house repairs when appropriate.
Maintain records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
Ensure all buildings, grounds, and equipment are clean, safe, and fully operational.
Monitor grounds for safety, cleanliness, and readiness.
Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, trailers, and facility assets in accordance with policy.
Determine when outside vendors or contractors are needed and coordinate their services.
Schedule vendors, meet them on-site, review scope of work, and oversee completion.
Ensure vendor work meets quality, safety, and budget expectations.
Coordinate with inspectors, fire marshals, and other officials to maintain compliance.
Support the setup and takedown of rooms and spaces for services, programs, and special events.
Ensure event spaces are safe, functional, and prepared in accordance with ministry needs.
Receive deliveries and coordinate vendor access for unloading, installation, or service.
In collaboration with the Senior Director, assist in developing and managing the annual facilities budget.
Monitor expenditures to ensure operations remain within approved guidelines.
Order and manage inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
Provide recommendations regarding facility improvements, capital needs, and operational efficiencies.
Ensure adherence to facility policies, including rentals and shared-use guidelines.
Work alongside the Security Director to maintain a safe, secure campus environment.
Communicate regularly with staff and participate in meetings to align priorities and schedules
