Overview Senior Strategic Communications Coordinator to join HDR’s Strategic Communications program, a global team focused on putting people first in planning and infrastructure. We develop and implement ideas to bring people together in projects of every size and sector, helping communities get to know each other, foster understanding, and build more connected, equitable, and sustainable communities.
As a Strategic Communications professional, you’ll work with HDR client brands to strengthen messaging and engagement strategies for programs, initiatives, or projects, while coordinating with HDR project managers and staff to translate technical knowledge into accessible content for diverse audiences.
Primary Role & Responsibilities Lead construction communications in the transportation, energy, and water markets in the Midwest.
Build and foster internal relationships with HDR project managers and staff; engage with technical staff to translate technical knowledge into accessible content.
Develop and implement construction communications plans (audience targeting, media relations, collateral development, activity scheduling, contact databases, reporting).
Coordinate and lead production/planning teams; lead concept development, writing, editing, and graphic coordination of outreach materials (email/alerts, surveys, newsletters, websites, handouts, videos, ads, press releases).
Facilitate virtual or in-person public meetings, hearings, open houses, focus groups, workshops, advisory committees, and other stakeholder meetings; gather data and perform political analysis as needed.
Assist with political outreach strategies and manage social media campaigns; media coordination/management including public notices and press releases; monitor media coverage and document project records.
Manage external service providers including sub-consultants.
Support development of client-focused messaging while maintaining HDR’s collaborative, employee-owned culture.
Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required
3 years of related experience in strategic communications, public involvement, public relations, or community engagement
Experience leading social media campaigns
Technical writing experience
Service- and client-oriented; ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Self-starter; works well independently or in a team
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Willingness to travel
Working knowledge of local, state, and federal requirements for public involvement
Strong organizational skills; ability to work with minimal supervision
Committed to HDR’s employee-owned culture
Preferred Qualifications 8 years related experience preferred
Media relations experience
Experience in energy, transportation, and/or water markets
Previous consulting or account management experience
