Communications & Digital Storytelling Intern

NOTE: This is a part-time, temporary internship during the summer of 2026 only. Part-time, temporary internship intended to provide hands-on experience and skills development in communications and digital storytelling within a municipal utility environment. This internship is part of FPUA’s structured Internship Program, which includes coordinated professional development activities, facility tours, and cohort-based engagement designed to provide exposure to the full scope of utility operations. Also includes completion of defined project deliverables provided at the start of the program. Reports to the Digital Media and Marketing Specialist and participates in program activities coordinated by the Internship Program Lead. The internship program will be available annually during the summer months, May through August. (NOTE: There are also secondary functions, which the employee will be required to perform.) Assist with planning and marketing for key outreach initiatives, including FPUA’s 3rd Annual Youth Career Event. Assist with building a simple communications calendar aligned with the FPUA Youth Career Event, public utility observances, and community outreach. Plan content timelines to support event promotion before, during, and after the Youth Career Event. Support the creation of brand-aligned social media graphics and event promotions. Organize photos, videos, and templates into a shared content library for future use. Assist with drafting short captions, headlines, and explainer copy. Support planning and production of short videos highlighting career pathways, utility roles, and event experiences. Assist with organizing digital assets and documenting basic content workflows. Work with staff across departments to gather information and support storytelling. Attend select meetings and events related to customer or event outreach and career education. Participate in FPUA Internship Program activities, including facility tours, workshops, and professional development sessions. Collaborate with fellow interns on assigned group activities or special projects, as applicable. Represent the organization in a professional manner during internal and external internship-related events. Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited source. Candidates pursuing or intending to pursue higher education, technical training, or a career pathway related to the internship area are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated interest in professional growth through coursework, projects, employment, or extracurricular involvement preferred. Entry-level experience creating digital content, including photography and short-form video. Basic experience using video editing or graphic design tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Canva, or similar platforms preferred. Experience publishing social media and email content desired. Must possess: Ability to incorporate and employ on a continuous basis: initiate change, creativity, collaboration, pride and accountability. Basic understanding of social media platforms and digital content trends (Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube). Interest in digital storytelling, content creation, and community engagement. Familiarity with graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and CapCut. Entry-level experience with photography. Basic video editing skills using tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, Canva, or similar platforms, and familiarity with basic audio recording equipment. Strong written communication for content skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to learn and accept feedback in a professional environment. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office or relevant digital tools.
