Essential Job Duties
The Commercial Sales Representative plays an important role in driving commercial sales for the store. They should strive to provide superior customer service by providing quality solutions for the business needs of our commercial customers while meeting the individual and store expectations for sales volume and gross margin. The Commercial Sales Representative must work effectively with customers, vendors, and other employees. Bonus Opportunities available.
Responsibilities
Build and maintains a network of sources from which to identify new sales leads.
Create materials list/estimates.
Communicates with customers and leads to identify and understand their product or service needs; identifies and suggests products and services to meet those needs.
Demonstrates the functions and utility of products or services to customers based on their needs.
Ensures customer satisfaction through ongoing communication and relationship management; resolves any issues that may arise post-sale.
Maintains communication with existing and previous customers, alerting them of new products, services, and enhancements that may be of interest.
Maintains detailed reports of sales activities including calls, orders, sales, lost business, and any customer or vendor relationship problems.
Responsible for being in the store 4 ½ days a week with half a day visiting job sites.
Qualifications
Must have building construction and product knowledge experience.
Be able to read blueprints.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to function in a high‑paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Create material estimates.
Must be able to climb up and down ladders, reach, bend, twist, kneel, lift up to 50 lbs.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Summary Must be able to perform each duty and responsibility in a satisfactory manner. Qualifications include previous work experience dealing with retail sales or general customer service. Must possess strong math, reading, writing, and speaking skills, and a friendly demeanor. Must possess problem‑solving ability and good organizational skills, and must be able to communicate using telephone and e‑mail. Basic knowledge of lumber, building materials, or general hardware merchandise is required, and specific departmental expertise is preferred. Must be able to lift and load merchandise weighing up to 100 lbs. for various amounts of time, lift and load merchandise over six feet off the ground, climb a ladder, and maneuver safely at the store. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
