Job Title Senior Instructional Designer

Department Pharmacy | Education Innovation and Scholarship

Responsibilities The Senior Instructional Designer provides expert leadership in instructional design to create, improve, and evaluate high‑quality, accessible learning experiences across online, hybrid, and in‑person modalities. The Sr. ID partners closely with faculty and subject‑matter experts to ensure clear alignment among learning outcomes, assessments, and learning activities; leads course‑level quality reviews; and recommends improvements to streamline and strengthen the college’s course quality framework. The role is consultation‑forward and brings advanced instructional media production capability for priority courses and initiatives. The Sr. ID collaborates with the Director on responsible, effective use of artificial intelligence in education and contributes to innovation that measurably improves student learning and faculty experience.

Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Instructional Design, Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, or related field; 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in instructional design and online course development in higher education; demonstrated ability to independently design/redesign courses with clear outcome–assessment–activity alignment and to show resulting improvements in learning or engagement; demonstrated ability to evaluate and apply educational technologies in support of instructional goals within a higher‑education LMS environment; expertise applying UDL and WCAG 2.x during course design; ability to perform accessibility checks and coordinate pragmatic remediation; proficiency building in Canvas (templates/blueprints, modules, rubrics, quizzes) and integrating approved tools (e.g., H5P); working knowledge of HTML/CSS for instructional layout and accessibility. Advanced ability to produce instructional media end‑to‑end (planning, scripting, recording, editing, light animation) using contemporary toolsets (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud) with accessible outputs. Strong project management (scoping, timelines, risks), excellent communication, and demonstrated success partnering with faculty/SMEs to deliver on time and to standard.

Desired Qualifications Master’s in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field. Experience leading quality assurance using industry-standard tools (e.g., QM) and continuous improvement cycles at course or program level. Experience designing and evaluating faculty development aligned to instructional goals (micro‑sessions, communities of practice). Practical experience applying AI in education (e.g., prompt design for ID workflows, assessment design considerations, feedback optimization, integrity and transparency practices). Experience in health‑professions education or other practice‑based, competency‑driven programs.

Pay Range The pay range for this job profile is $58,700 - $77,200. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.

Work Arrangement The College of Pharmacy believes in a healthy work/life balance, therefore, the work arrangement for this position is hybrid (i.e., remote and in-office), subject to change based upon the needs of the organization and as determined by College Leadership.
