We’re hiring an experienced U.S.-based freelance photographer for a four-month national project tied to the 25th anniversary of 9/11. This is a fast-moving documentary/event assignment covering approximately 40 events nationwide from May 2026 through mid-September 2026, plus a small number of related receptions. Most events will run 3 to 4 hours. Travel will be extensive and will include both long drives and flights. This role is for someone who can work independently, move well under pressure, and deliver clean, thoughtful event coverage without a lot of drama or babysitting.
What the job includes
Coverage of approximately 40 events across the U.S.
Coverage of roughly 6 related receptions
Mostly outdoor events, with some indoor evening receptions
Extensive travel over a four-month period
Access to locations and moments you would not normally get
Deliverables
25 retouched selects per event day
Same-day turnaround for daily client delivery
Final delivery of all RAW files and all selects at project close
Travel and expenses
Most travel city-to-city will be by car/van
All airfare, meals, and miscellaneous travel expenses will be reimbursed monthly
Accommodations will be booked and covered by the client
There will be some built-in breaks during the schedule
Flat rate compensation covers shoot days and travel days; off days are not paid
Rights
All retouched images, raw camera files and image rights transfer to the client in perpetuity
Photographer may use selected, approved images for personal portfolio purposes
Experience Requirements:
U.S.-based and available from early May through mid-September 2026
Strong portfolio in event, documentary, and/or commercial photography
Proven ability to deliver on a tight same-day turnaround
Comfortable shooting outdoors, in changing conditions, and at indoor evening receptions
Confident with flash and supplemental lightingOrganized, reliable, and comfortable with a demanding travel schedule
