POSITION DESCRIPTION Adheres to all applicable standard operating procedures and policies, such as safety, security, environmental, personal protective equipment, confined space, etc. Construct and make repairs to buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. Frame walls, install siding and sheet‑rock, and put up ceiling tiles. Perform trim carpentry work, molding and trim, door and window casings, baseboards and other types of ornamental work. Build custom items like cabinets, bookcases, etc. from plans. Assist with masonry, plumbing, painting and electrical work orders and projects. Ability to perform various types of construction repairs; construction of building foundations, placement of forms, trusses and structural assemblies. Operate truck, trailer, forklift, small excavator, and various other construction equipment. Determine scopes of work, materials, labor and equipment from verbal orders or work orders. Read and understand blueprints and shop drawings. Develop bills of materials, acquire material quotes. Perform preventive maintenance checks and services on tools and equipment. Supervise inmate work crews and temporary detailed employees. Comfortable with operations while on ladders, scaffolding, roofs and other elevated surfaces. Maintain accountability for hand‑receipted tools and equipment. Maintain shop and work area to a state of readiness, cleanliness and safety. Attend mandatory LMD classes, scheduled safety meetings, classes and schools assigned by supervisor. Accessible after normal duty hours, weekends and holidays as required. Adhere to Installation Standard Operation Procedures. Perform other duties assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma/GED required. 5‑7+ years as a skilled plumber with 1‑2 years in a supervisory role. Proficiency in reading manuals/blueprints, and understanding computer software (Microsoft Office, Adobe). Strong communication, problem‑solving, organization, and time management skills.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid driver’s license, Social Security card and birth certificate.
Must qualify to obtain a Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC).
Must be available to report to duty during emergency or disaster situations. Other periodic travel may be required.
Must meet physical requirements to perform functions of the position.
Must attend/complete all Louisiana Military Department (LMD) annual training and other training required for the position.
Must adhere to the Code of Ethics and foster a sexual‑harassment‑free environment.
