
Development Specialist

Position Summary

Essential Functions
Build relationships with current volunteers. Recruit and onboard new volunteers and match them to service opportunities.
Assist in planning the organization’s giving programs via social media campaigns. Key fundraising campaigns include:
Disabilities Awareness Month (March)
Volunteer Awareness Month (April)
Year‑End Appeal (November)
Assist with planning and administration of annual events, including:
Golf Outing (July)
Tennis and Pickleball Outing (August)
Fall Fest (October)
It’s a Miracle Dinner (November)
Two donor member events
Participate in the creation of development and marketing materials, including quarterly newsletter, annual report, website and email communications, and social media posts.
This list is not exhaustive and additional work may be added at the request of the Chief Development Officer or CEO.
Reports to the Chief Development Officer.
Position Qualifications
Education:
Required: High School Graduate
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
Experience:
At least three years of development, fundraising, event coordination, nonprofit, volunteer coordination, or related experience with a track record of increased responsibility.
Experience with:
DonorView or similar fundraising database preferred
Publishing and photo‑editing software, such as Canva
Microsoft Office suite
Social media platforms
Knowledge and Skills:
Find meaning in work with people impacted by intellectual and developmental disabilities
Strong administrative and time‑management skills with attention to detail
A professional and resourceful style, able to work independently as a team player
Ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects simultaneously, exceptional follow‑through skills
Ability to work cooperatively with all related volunteers, committees and donors
Writing skills to compose clear, concise and comprehensive correspondence and other written materials
Other Requirements:
Must pass physical, drug screen, TB test (paid by Angels' Place)
Must pass Michigan State Police and FBI fingerprint criminal history background check.
Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and maintain a responsible driving record.
Work Environment
Full time, in person at our office in Southfield (near Northwestern Hwy. and Franklin Rd.), M‑F 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Some evening and weekends are required. An Annual Planning Calendar indicates when these events will be for planning ahead.
Occasional local travel required.
