Success Profile the Dress Designer, Jessica Howard will support the Head Designer to create and design a competitive dress product line that strikes a balance between relevant commercial product and brand right emotional fashion. Designer will support business growth according to the brand’s strategic and financial objectives for the customer. Work directly with design director and team to create line of moderate career and social dresses.

Key Responsibilities

Work with Head Designer to build the line from conceptual research, sketches to final approved prototypes.

Pulls swipes, identifies inspiration styles and trends to illustrate line development. Sketch and create tech packs. Must understand garment construction and be able to effectively direct our sample rooms.

Be able to produce product in a timely manner and meet market deadlines.

Be able to work between design, production, and sales. Attend fabric and design meetings.

Shops for seasonal inspirational each season. Trend, fabric, and trim research. Help to source fabrics and trims for each collection. Communicates daily with overseas offices regarding the status of the product development and approvals.

Design and develop first samples that are brand appropriate.

Work with cutters, sewers

Attend fittings and be able to adjust samples for showroom presentations. Ensure style lines, fit and function.

Must be organized, strong communication skills and team player

Professional Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

5+ years of experience in apparel design, required

Expert technical skill proficiency using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, required

Demonstrated ability to sketch fashion and technical drawings, with strong hand sketch and competent computer design skills

Must have experience with dresses

Familiarity with the development process and working with overseas factories and vendors

Fashion savvy with the critical ability to identify and interpret commercially viable trends

Accurate attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to take independent action to follow through on open items and issue resolution to completion

Confident, capable, highly effective cross-functional written/verbal communication, teaming and interpersonal skills

Educational Background

Bachelor’s or technical degree in Design or equivalent work experience

Compensation The pay range for this position is: $70-110K per year. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
