WTNH/News 8 is looking for its next nightside show leader. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leadership, creativity and collaboration skills to increase the depth and reach of our newscasts and digital platforms while building new audiences and enhancing the user experience. The Nightside Executive Producer will execute best practices in this aggressive breaking news and severe weather market.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Manage nightside team, contribute to the editorial process, and make solid decisions in breaking news situations.
Help in content production
Define strategic direction for content coverage to meet business and financial objectives.
Execute strategies that engage and grow audiences across all media devices.
Possess strong interpersonal skills, understand how to recruit new producers, and enjoy the coaching/mentoring aspects of this position.
Hold post news meetings, look forward to next day, and offer critiques
Be a leader in content and managers meetings

Requirements & Skills

Bachelor\\'s Degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
At least 5 years’ experience in news operations and/or producing preferred.
Collaborate with anchors, reporters, producers, writers, assignment editors, photographers, and other team members to ensure newscasts are highly produced, teases are strong, and content matches the station brand, review scripts, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and ethical journalism.
Must be able fill in on show producing when necessary.
Ability to multi-task, deal with extreme deadline pressure, and react/coordinate coverage under live breaking news situation is crucial.
Excellent verbal, written, digital and analytical skills
Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations
Able to work the nightside shift.

Executive Producer

WSYR-TV Newschannel 9, the Nexstar ABC television affiliate in Syracuse, NY seeks an Executive Producer to help lead our winning news team. The market leader in beautiful Central New York is expanding its operation, launching an all-new television streaming platform. The Executive Producer plays a pivotal role in our mission to grow a news audience on all platforms, broadcast, digital, OTT, and social.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coach and teach teammates to grow in confidence and capability in areas outlined here
Use informed news judgment, showcasing techniques, and news research to lead the team in building newscasts and streams which serve the needs and meet the preferences of our local viewers
Quickly adjust newscasts and streams to accommodate breaking news and severe weather coverage
Edit and author strong copy with correct grammar, punctuation, editorial style, and formatting to meet the requirements of each on-air, digital, and social distribution platform
Ensure that all content produced meets company standards for journalistic integrity, timeliness, and production quality
Cooperate and communicate clearly, directly, and regularly with news & production teammates and other station departments
Organize and delegate to ensure booking of timely live interview guests for morning programs
Line produces when necessary

Required & Preferred Capabilities:

Strong news judgment and high journalistic integrity
Strong awareness of news and current events
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and make sound editorial decisions in real-time
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Fluency in English
Strong, candid knowledge of self & capabilities and display the willingness & ability to take action to learn, improve, and grow
Professional savvy and collegial demeanor when interacting with colleagues and members of the public
Work well under pressure --- ability to handle breaking news and last-minute changes with aplomb
Low-to-zero call/approach reluctance --- ability to confidently engage with viewers, officials, those affected by stories, and others to cultivate story leads and information
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Media, Creative Writing, English, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience required to succeed in the role
Flexibility to work any shift, as coverage needs demand staffing changes

Technical Skills:

Mastery of AP writing style to edit and author digital, social, and on-air content
Strong non-linear video editing skills and familiarity with Adobe Premiere video editing software preferred
Familiarity with ENPS rundown and story management system preferred
Knowledge of and confidence with OBS a plus
Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
Valid driver's license required for hire. A clean driving record is required and must be maintained to be able to safely & confidently operate company motor vehicles

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Executive News Producer must be able to stand, sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and occasionally work outdoors with various weather conditions and indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment or items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Compensation Range - $20 - $26 per hour wage
