What You’ll Do
As Director of Financial Aid, you will oversee all aspects of financial aid administration while ensuring compliance with federal, state, Tribal, and institutional regulations. You’ll serve as both a strategic leader and a trusted resource for students, families, staff, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Aid Leadership & Compliance
- Manage and administer all financial aid programs, including federal Title IV aid.
- Oversee compliance with Department of Education, Department of Defense, and Veteran Affairs requirements.
- Serve as the VA School Certifying Official and support military‑connected students and veterans.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with veteran service organizations, Tribal entities, and community partners.
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Prepare financial aid reports and data for auditors, accrediting agencies, Executive Council, Board of Regents, and internal leadership.
- Partner with the Business Office to ensure accurate awarding and disbursement through the Colleague system.
- Complete monthly reconciliations and monitor aid-related financial activity.
- Prepare and manage the annual financial aid operating budget.
Team Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Hire, train, supervise, and develop financial aid staff.
- Facilitate financial aid committee meetings and ensure policies and procedures are followed.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute ideas to improve service quality and efficiency.
- Stay current with changing regulations through ongoing training and professional development.
Student & Family Support
- Provide compassionate, accurate financial aid counseling to students and parents.
- Deliver a high‑quality, respectful customer experience while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive financial and personal data.
What We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in a Financial Aid Office at a post‑secondary institution.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business, Higher Education, or a related field.
- 5+ years of financial aid experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Familiarity with Colleague or similar ERPs, NSLDS, and COD systems.
- Experience working with Native American communities.
