Position Summary The Corporate Communications Team amplifies SHRM and SHRM executives both internally and externally. As part of this team, the role focuses on media relations, content creation, and strategy to support SHRM’s mission.
Work Environment Hybrid position: 3 days in‑office (Tuesday‑Thursday) and 2 days remote (Monday and Friday).
Responsibilities Write and edit media‑related materials including pitches, press releases, media advisories, statements, op‑eds, and other communications.
Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and producers.
Identify actionable trends from the news cycle and ensure accurate representation of SHRM messaging.
Develop and execute media opportunities around SHRM research.
Propose new strategies and tactics to enhance SHRM’s media profile.
Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience: 3‑5 years of progressively complex experience in media relations or as a member of the media; policy media experience is a plus.
Skills: Ability to write clear, concise copy; manage a diverse workload with competing deadlines; extensive knowledge of effective media strategies; positive interaction with stakeholders; physical requirements include sitting, talking, hearing, typing, and visual acuity for computer work.
