
Principal Communications Manager

We are seeking a high-impact, strategic media relations expert to lead proactive earned media workstreams for Intuit’s reputation and policy initiatives. In this role, you will drive high-visibility media engagements, securing top-tier coverage that defines our narrative among global business and policy audiences. You will act as a primary bridge between our Global Corporate Affairs and Public Policy (GCAPP) and Public Affairs teams and the broader Global Communications organization. The ideal candidate is a master of the news cycle, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and adept at managing high‑stakes media interactions. You will serve as a senior advisor to C‑Suite executives on high‑visibility media opportunities, protecting and promoting Intuit’s reputation at the intersection of technology, finance, and public policy.
Responsibilities
Public Affairs Earned Media Strategy: Architect and execute high‑visibility earned media campaigns for Intuit’s Global Business Solutions Group (QuickBooks and Mailchimp). Partner closely with Public Policy and Public Affairs teams to secure impactful coverage on small business empowerment, the QuickBooks Small Business Index, and AI adoption. Lead Intuit’s narrative on related policy shifts and legislative advocacy.
High‑Visibility Media Management and Spokesperson: Serve as a direct point of contact for major business and policy press, including serving as an on‑the‑record or on‑background spokesperson for media. Provide strategic counsel on issues related to various stakeholders from employees to customers.
Legislative Advocacy Support: Drive the narrative for Intuit’s global Small Business Councils (US & UK), supporting bi‑parisan advocacy fly‑ins and policy shifts, such as seeking parity with financial institutions for payment processing.
Strategic Content Development: Develop high‑level materials, including strong op‑eds, blog posts, press releases, media pitches, and briefing documents for the C‑Suite and senior leaders.
Cross‑Functional Alignment: Partner closely with Legal, Privacy, Workplace, Brand/Social, and Security teams.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum 10 years of direct experience in Media Relations or Corporate Communications, with a heavy emphasis on securing high‑visibility earned media and leading public affairs campaigns. Ideal candidate has in‑house external policy communications experience at a major technology company or a public company in a regulated industry.
Major Media Expertise: Proven track record of placing stories in top‑tier global business and policy outlets. Deep understanding of the media landscape and the ability to pivot strategies based on breaking news and sentiment shifts.
Media Relationships: Established relationships with editorial staff at policy, beltway and business publications such as WSJ, NYT, Politico, Axios, and The Hill.
Technical & Financial Literacy: Ability to quickly grasp technical protocols and financial market dynamics to translate them into clear, accessible messaging.
Collaborative Leadership: Experience managing senior stakeholders and large cross‑functional workstreams across global regions and external agency partners.
Writing Excellence: Exceptional ability to draft executive‑facing materials that capture strategy and execution under tight deadlines.
Strategic Agility: Thrives in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment with the ability to rapidly re‑prioritize work in response to breaking news while proactively identifying emerging trends to protect and promote corporate reputation.
