Lymphedema Specialist (Healthcare)
To serve patients of CARTI diagnosed with BrCA through a cost-effective rehabilitation program that includes pre-operative to post-operative assessment, education, exercise, and emotional support in a group or individualized setting. Provides comprehensive therapeutic patient care for breast cancer patients to ensure positive patient outcomes. Educates the patient and health care providers to assure continuity of the patient care plan. Interacts with other departments and members of the medical team in developing and implementing interdisciplinary patient care plans to ensure comprehensive, quality medical care.
Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provides patient care assessment, treatment, and education.
Ensures patient evaluations and treatments are comprehensive, functional and according to the Standard of Practice.
Provides sound clinical judgment in interpreting the evaluation results and establishing an acceptable treatment plan with realistic goals.
Maintains accurate patient documentation.
Completes written patient evaluations, progress notes, and discharge notes per policy.
Ensures accurate and timely documentation of patient/family education, charges and departmental statistics, and ICD-10 codes as appropriate.
Ensures that all treatments and interventions comply with established protocols, standards, and regulations.
Adheres to infection control procedures and maintains a clean and safe treatment environment.
Meets department financial and productivity standards.
Understands the budgeted expectations.
Maintains productivity standards.
Adjusts individual schedules to meet the needs of the patient and department.
Participates in process management to optimize quality and efficiency of services.
Identifies quality and operational opportunities.
Promotes professional development and education of other health care workers and provides representation on committees.
Conducts in-service training programs to provide state-of-the-art information to health care workers and enhances safety.
Supervises occupational therapy and occupational therapy assistant students to develop their clinical skills and ensure the delivery of quality patient care.
Communicates in a professional and timely manner with patients, physicians, staff, and all external customers.
Provides appropriate patient care in accordance with age/developmental guidelines.
Demonstrates age/developmentally specific knowledge, skills, and abilities for the patients served.
Creates and inputs invoices for the sales of durable medical equipment.
Additional duties as assigned.
Education, Certification, Licensure, Registration
Masters degree in occupational therapy from an ACOTE-accredited program
National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification as an Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR)
Current Arkansas state license to practice occupational therapy
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified
Certified lymphedema therapist (CLT), preferred
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
2 years experience working in a clinical setting treating Lymphedema and Breast Rehabilitation patients, preferred
Contact with patients, family members, visitors, coworkers and medical staff under a wide variety of circumstances.
Ability to communicate on a professional level with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers.
Ability to communicate with patients of all age groups and significant others appropriate to the level of comprehension.
Has knowledge, clinical skills, and understanding of the patient throughout the entire span of life.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
Interpersonal Skills
Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form.
Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.
