Marketing Specialist Overview
The Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing and executing data-driven marketing strategies that support long-term growth, sales, and brand awareness. Working under general supervision, this role analyzes market trends, member behavior, and campaign performance to shape strategic plans aligned with business goals. The position collaborates cross-functionally to deliver integrated campaigns, measures results using KPIs, and optimizes performance. Responsibilities also include content development, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, supporting product launches, engaging in community events, and maintaining adherence to credit union policies and internal controls.
Work Arrangement Hybrid role; working onsite (2 days/week) at the Headquarters building in East Lansing and remotely.
Schedule Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm ET. Requires ability to work varied evening and weekend hours for events. Specific schedule determined during interview.
Employment Conditions Offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $57,000-$64,000 dependent on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Marketing Specialist
Responsible for marketing products and services offered by the Credit Union according to annual marketing plan, with responsibility for specific assigned products and services
Focuses on driving growth from new member acquisition, upsell/cross-sell, and retention opportunities
Meets and communicates regularly with relevant stakeholders (business units and external partners) on marketing campaigns
Transforms business objectives into marketing strategy and resulting successful tactics
Plans and writes marketing content to ensure a successful promotion and increased product usage
Proofreads own and others' documents to verify their effectiveness in conveying the necessary message, ensuring consistent brand, quality, and accuracy of information correct as to content, grammar, and spelling, and free of typographical errors; makes edits and copy suggestions to fellow team members' work
Leads research for the development of member communication to ensure alignment of message (key selling points) to target audience; determines target audience
Creates Campaign Plans and new initiative overview documents
Collaborates closely with Creative Services on the development of marketing materials
Maintains and reports on results and expenses for each marketing campaign conducted
Partners with market managers, business intelligence, and other internal partners to create SWOT analysis, and utilize consumer and competitive analysis and latest marketplace trends
Plays supporting role in product/service review, refresh, and bundling
Coordinates special projects and programs to ensure success of the products/services/projects/programs
Uploads current marketing content such as promotions and campaigns to the intranet
Collaborates closely with Digital Marketing and Communications partners to ensure integrated marketing campaigns
Maintains brand standards and ensures consistent branding across various touchpoints and through marketing tactics and campaigns
Using assets provided by Creative Services, designs limited marketing materials
Provides timely and appropriate reports and communications to VP of Marketing and Marketing Manager
Communicates effectively across Community Impact division and throughout the Credit Union
Works closely with marketing vendors and partners to ensure on-time campaign launches
Represents the Credit Union at events on campus and in the community to promote products and services
Participates in training activities within your department and with the learning development department; such training helps to ensure staff compliance with organization policies and state and federal regulations and laws
Responds to staff and member questions regarding marketing promotions
Ensures that all materials comply with federal, state and local regulations and legal requirements
Maintains the confidentiality of sensitive member, team member, and other corporate information
Actively engages in continuous improvement activities
Performs other duties and assists other employees as assigned
Marketing Specialist II

Requires less direction for targeting audience and campaign development
Acts as sole lead on new projects
Works directly with other departments to lead product changes/introductions
Ability to lead a proofreading team
Works efficiently to produce a high-volume of error-free work
Assists with training of new team members
Senior Marketing Specialist
All of Marketing Specialist II duties and responsibilities
Trains new team members
Presents ideas for new promotions, campaigns, and tactics
As necessary, leads project development for all Marketing Specialists
Assists other team members with identifying target market, headlines, verbiage, etc.
Represents the Marketing department and assigned products/services at Credit Union project meetings
Supports Credit Union direction while helping others understand the purpose and goals
Be a role model by demonstrating initiative, integrity, responsibility, professionalism, and dependability
Maintains regular communication with Marketing management to share observations of strengths and areas for development within the department
Mentors intern(s), including coordinating intern work schedule and providing feedback on progress and development to management
Uses critical thinking skills to solve problems and improve processes, work efficiently, and use time effectively
Acts as a go-to person to assist other Marketing Specialists
Leads trainings in the department, such as training to write impactful headlines and effective call-to-actions (CTAs)

Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, public relations, business, or related major required
Work requires comprehensive understanding of marketing funnel and concepts, as well as graphic design
Strong knowledge of and experience applying marketing methodology
Knowledge of the Credit Union's products and services as well as rules and regulations, policies, and procedures
Requires ability to analyze results and create reports related to marketing promotions
Must be proficient in the following computer programs: Microsoft Office, InDesign, and Trello
Basic understanding of Illustrator and Photoshop
Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, along with the ability to present information effectively to employees and members
Ability to solve problems and handle complex details
Must be detail-oriented
Multitask orientation to handle numerous projects simultaneously
Must be a team player as there are various departments and personalities to satisfy
Necessity to meet competing deadlines
Effective project management skills
Marketing Specialist II
