Overview
Guardian Angels for Soldier's Pet (GAfSP) organizes programs to support deploying service members and veterans with pet care needs. The programs include: a nationwide Pet Foster Home program with a Military Pet Assistance (MPA) fund for specific situations; MVP Sanctuary, TX currently in development to provide additional support to our TX-based service members and their families; and Warriors' Angels (WA), TX program related to assisting service members and honorably discharged veterans diagnosed with PTSD in obtaining an appropriate candidate to be trained as their service dog with a training facility as part of the MVP Sanctuary. Responsibilities
The virtual volunteer role of Community Outreach Liaison (COL) acts as the liaison between Guardian Angels for Soldier’s Pet (GAfSP) and the local community and surrounding areas. The target objectives are to 1) interact with military and community news outlets and 2) represent the organization with information tables at various civilian and military events within the local area and state. The role is virtual. Roles and Reporting
reports to the National Marketing & Communications Director; is not involved with fundraising other than when asked; can advise an individual or another organization of how they may donate if they choose to. Communications Outreach
Represents the organization at the state level or a designated area of a state with military and non-military media contacts. Educates the civilian and military communities about who we are, what we do, and how we do it. Develops and maintains relationships with local media and military "Public Affairs Offices" (PAOs) or recruiter locations to promote the organization. Contributes to the organization’s newsletter and blog as appropriate. Event Outreach
Identifies, contacts, and maintains a list of potential events within their state or area where an information table could be set up and makes the necessary contacts/arrangements to be in attendance. Works with organizations/businesses who have contacted GAfSP requesting our presence at a fundraiser where the organization has been designated to receive the net proceeds. Submits any documents required by an Event Host for our participation to the National office for review and official required signature. Recruit volunteers within the event area to help at a specific event with the information table (if necessary). Coordinates with the National Marketing & Communications Director to promote GAfSP’s participation at these events. Administrative
Complete understanding of the organization and its mission. Checks the official assigned email account daily. Maintains open communications with the National Marketing Director in a timely manner via email or phone. Responds to requests from the National Marketing Director in a timely and professional manner. Prepares and submits the monthly "Volunteer Service Hours" report to the National Office by the 5th of the month following the reporting month. Desired Skills
A passion to help our military service members, veterans, and their pets, plus ability to work with others who share this passion. Professional, organized, reliable, able to work with a diverse group of people, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Understand, follow, and adhere to the organization’s mission, purpose, operating procedures, and policies and guidelines. Previous public relations and/or military public affairs officer experience preferred. Comfortable using MS Office Pro (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or OpenOffice; able to communicate via internet, phone, and email. Able to commit at least 1 year in this position.
