Summary Balfour Beatty is seeking an IT Director to join our team in Dallas, TX. This individual will oversee data integrations and business intelligence and be responsible for leading the strategy, architecture, delivery, and support of the organization’s enterprise data integration, reporting and analytics capabilities. In a lean‑team environment, this roIe serves as both a strategic leader and a hands‑on technical contributor, providing direction across the function while also remaining actively involved in solution design, development oversight, troubleshooting, optimisation, and platform modernisation.
This role is ideal for a player‑coach who is comfortable operating across leadership, architecture and execution. The Director will establish priorities, guide standards, partner with business and IT stakeholders, and develop team capability while also contributing directly to high‑impact initiatives, technical problem solving and critical production support. The role will help shape the future‑state analytics platform, including the organization’s planned transition towards Microsoft Fabric, while ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of the current hybrid environment.
Essential Functions
Lead the strategy, architecture, delivery, and operational support of enterprise data integration, data warehousing, reporting and analytics solutions.
Define and maintain the roadmap for integrations, data pipelines, data warehousing, reporting and analytics platforms, balancing immediate business needs with long‑term modernisation goals.
Serve as the senior technical leader for the organization’s data and integration ecosystem, providing hands‑on involvement in architecture, design reviews, solution development, troubleshooting, and issue resolution as needed.
Design, oversee and when appropriate directly support the development of integrations and automated workflows using platforms such as Workato, AWS Lambda, AWS Step Functions, AWS Glue, SQL Server, SSIS, Amazon Redshift and Power BI.
Guide the design and optimisation of ETL/ELT pipelines, data transformations, orchestration processes and reporting environments to ensure scalability, maintainability and performance.
Partner with business leaders, functional teams and IT stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritise work and deliver practical, scalable data and analytics solutions.
Establish and enforce standards for data architecture, integration design, data quality, governance, security, documentation and operational support.
Lead the design and delivery of dashboards, reports, semantic models and self‑service analytics capabilities that support operational and strategic decision‑making.
Identify opportunities to improve interoperability, reduce manual effort, strengthen controls and increase trust in enterprise data.
Lead modernisation efforts across the data and analytics ecosystem, including evaluation, planning and migration readiness for Microsoft Fabric.
Provide leadership for production support of integrations, data pipelines and BI/reporting solutions, including incident response, escalation management, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
Mentor, coach and develop team members while fostering a collaborative, accountable and solution‑oriented culture.
Manage external vendors, consultants and implementation partners as needed.
Support resource planning, prioritisation and execution across a small team with a focus on delivering high‑value outcomes efficiently.
Working Conditions The majority of work is completed in a hybrid office setting with intermittent sitting, standing and walking. Periodic travel required.
Education, Experience, And Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in data integration, data engineering, business intelligence, reporting, analytics or related technical roles.
Minimum of 3 years of experience leading technical teams, enterprise data initiatives or major cross‑functional technology efforts.
Demonstrated experience operating in a hands‑on leadership capacity within a lean team or similarly resource‑constrained environment.
Demonstrated experience designing, development, supporting and modernising enterprise data and integration solutions.
