The Regional Director of Environmental Health & Safety Senior leadership role responsible for overseeing UG2’s EHS strategy and programs across the western United States, with a primary focus on California operations. This role ensures consistent execution of injury prevention, risk management, and regulatory compliance initiatives while fostering strong collaboration with client partners. The Regional Director will lead multiple Regional EHS Managers and specialists, providing guidance, coaching, and oversight to ensure EHS programs are delivered effectively across all client sites. The role is ideally based in California and requires frequent travel across the state and limited travel nationwide.

Job Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Program Management

Lead execution and continuous improvement of UG2’s EHS programs within the western region.

Directly manage Regional EHS Managers and specialists, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and operational goals.

Drive adoption of best practices, consistent KPIs, and safety performance metrics across all sites in the region.

Develop data-driven strategies to reduce TRIR, DART, and other key EHS performance indicators.

Client Collaboration & Partnership

Serve as the primary EHS liaison to key clients in the region, fostering collaborative relationships and ensuring alignment with client EHS expectations.

Partner with clients to evaluate and enhance safety programs, provide training guidance, and support regulatory compliance initiatives.

Actively participate in client meetings, audits, and safety reviews to ensure transparency, trust, and alignment of EHS objectives.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Mitigation

Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, DOT, and relevant state/local regulations across all facilities.

Lead regional audits, inspections, and compliance initiatives, and oversee follow-up and corrective actions.

Manage environmental programs including hazardous materials, building toxics, sustainability, refrigerant compliance, waste reduction, and SDS systems.

Incident Management & Claims Support

Oversee root cause analyses of regional incidents, ensuring quality investigations and corrective actions.

Collaborate with operations and claims teams to manage Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, and Auto claims.

Identify incident trends and implement region-wide corrective measures and training programs.

Training, Communication & Culture Building

Oversee development and delivery of multi-language EHS training programs through LMS and in-person sessions.

Promote a culture of safety leadership among operations management, site leads, and frontline teams.

Provide coaching, support, and professional development to regional EHS staff and operational leaders.

Fleet & Operational Safety

Oversee regional Fleet Safety Program, including driver training, policy adherence, and telematics.

Ensure consistency in vehicle incident investigations, reporting, and regulatory compliance.

Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

Manage regional EHS metrics: TRIR, DART, LTIR, EMR, leading indicators, audit scores, and compliance KPIs.

Provide performance insights, trends, and recommendations to AVP EHS and senior leadership.

Lead initiatives improving EHS efficiency, digitalization, and cross-functional processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly manage multiple Regional EHS Managers and specialists.

Provide leadership, mentoring, and accountability across all EHS staff in the region.

Ensure professional development and career growth for regional EHS personnel.

Requirements (Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, And Education And/or Experience)

BA/BS degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, or related field.

8+ years of progressive EHS experience, including 2+ years in multi-site management.

Strong background in facilities management, engineering, janitorial, or similar operational environments.

Knowledge of OSHA/Cal-OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state/local regulations.

Experience managing Workers’ Compensation, Auto, and General Liability claims.

Demonstrated ability to lead teams, influence cross-functional partners, and communicate effectively at all organizational levels.

Proficiency with EHS data systems, Microsoft Office, LMS platforms, and digital inspection tools.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Frequent travel across California with limited national travel (30–50%).

Preferred

Professional Certifications: ASP, CSP, CIH, CHST, or CSHO.

Experience managing fleet safety programs, telematics, and driver qualification systems.

Track record of fostering collaborative client relationships and successfully integrating client EHS expectations into operational programs.

Working Conditions And/or Physical Requirements

Majority of travel within California. Limited travel to surrounding regions at business dictates.

Ability to climb ladders to access elevated areas. Able to lift 50 pounds of weight.
