JOB OVERVIEW The HR Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Human Resources function, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements. This role is responsible for workforce strategy, organizational development, compliance oversight, and executive partnership. The HR Director ensures that HR operates as a strategic business partner while maintaining a strong foundation of compliance, accountability, and operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Leadership

Develop and execute HR strategies aligned with organizational objectives.

Partner with executive leadership on workforce planning and organizational design.

Lead initiatives related to culture, engagement, and retention.

Advise leadership on risk, compliance, and employee relations matters.

Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure organizational compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.

Provide oversight of HR policies, procedures, and audits.

Mitigate risk through proactive HR practices and leadership guidance.

Oversee compliance areas including benefits, wage and hour, and employee relations.

Organizational Development

Lead performance management strategy and leadership development initiatives.

Support succession planning and talent development.

Drive organizational effectiveness and change management efforts.

Department Leadership

Provide direction and oversight to HR Manager, HRIS Manager, and Benefits Manager.

Establish clear accountability across HR functions.

Develop and manage HR budget and resource planning.

Ensure alignment and collaboration across all HR disciplines

ABOUT GANA-A'YOO, LIMITED GYL is an Alaska Native-Owned Village Corporation serving its more than 2,000 Native shareholders and four villages located along the Yukon River. Alaska Native Corporations are the result of the passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, which was signed into law in 1971. The act was intended to resolve long-standing issues surrounding aboriginal land claims, to stimulate economic development throughout Alaska, as well as to settle land and financial claims.

As a historically nomadic people who relied on each other, the concept of sharing is essential in Athabascan tradition. For thousands of years, small groups would band together to share resources, helping to ensure both the success and survival of the group. In the Koyukon Athabaskan language, Gana-A'Yoo means "friends together," which is reflected in our logomark's firm arm grip and the value we place on building long-term relationships.

This was the underlying sentiment in 1978 when the shareholders of the villages of Galena, Koyukuk, Nulato, and Kaltag made the decision to join together as "friends" and merge into one for-profit village corporation. The company has strong social and cultural ties to its villages and is committed to meeting its economic, social, and cultural obligations to its shareholders.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field required.

Master's degree preferred.

SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or related certification strongly preferred.

Experience

10+ years of progressive HR experience.

5+ years in a leadership role.

Experience in managing multiple HR disciplines.

Experience in multi-state operations preferred.

Experience in union and/or federal contracting environments.

Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with executive leadership.
