Piper Maddox has partnered with a leading Community Solar Developer to search for a Director of Construction to oversee community solar PV projects across Illinois and select Mid-Atlantic markets.

This organization has nearly 500 MW of operational capacity across 146 projects in 12 states, serving over 45,000 subscribers. Backed by institutional-scale permanent capital, they operate a full-service, in-house model covering development, financing, construction, and long-term operations. With a strong pipeline of upcoming projects—including 29 MW planned this summer and 100+ MW in development for next year—this is an opportunity to join a high-performing team shaping the future of community solar.

The Role The Director of Construction will manage all aspects of ongoing development and construction for community solar PV projects (3–7 MW, including small storage components) in assigned regions. You will lead a team of Project Managers and Project Associates, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

This is primarily a remote role with ~25% travel. Preference is for candidates within driving distance of the Chicago office, though this is not required. The position offers significant leadership responsibility, visibility, and the ability to directly impact project delivery and team performance.

Key Responsibilities

Lead full lifecycle development, construction, and commissioning of community solar projects.

Manage and mentor a team of 4 Project Managers and 4 Project Associates.

Oversee project planning, execution, financial performance, and closeout.

Coordinate with internal teams (Origination, Acquisitions & Development, Procurement) and external contractors/vendors.

Ensure compliance with safety, quality, contractual, and regulatory requirements.

Provide accurate reporting on project performance, risks, and schedules.

Implement process improvements and technical oversight across the portfolio.

Foster a strong safety-first culture across all job sites.

Qualifications

5+ years of Director-level experience managing solar PV construction projects.

Proven track record leading multiple projects through development, construction, and commissioning.

Experience with EPC or asset owner models preferred.

Strong understanding of:

Project cost accounting & forecasting

Scheduling & procurement

Productivity tracking & reporting

Labor management (union experience preferred)

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.

PMP certification preferred.

Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel ~25%.
