Position Overview The Director of Accounting will oversee all financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls for Petros Homes, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in a dynamic construction environment. This senior role reports directly to the President/Owner and plays a pivotal part in budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making to fuel our growth in the competitive homebuilding market. Key Responsibilities
Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
Develop and monitor budgets, cash flow projections, and financial forecasts tailored to construction project timelines, material costs, and sales cycles.
Oversee accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and cost accounting for homebuilding operations, including job costing for custom builds and land development.
Ensure regulatory compliance with tax filings, audits, and industry-specific reporting (e.g., real estate and construction regulations in Ohio).
Lead the accounting team, fostering collaboration with sales, construction, and executive leadership to optimize financial performance.
Implement process improvements using ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, ECI MarkSystem, Sage, or similar) to streamline reporting and reduce cycle times.
Analyze variances in construction costs, vendor contracts, and project profitability to support data-driven decisions.
Collaborate on risk management, including insurance, bonding, and financing for new developments.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a controller or senior accounting role; construction, real estate, or homebuilding industry experience highly desirable.
Proven expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and ERP systems; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling tools.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data in a project-based environment.
Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with a collaborative mindset suited to a close-knit team.
Knowledge of Ohio-specific tax and regulatory requirements a plus.
