Position Description The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO) is seeking a skilled Communications Specialist to support the development and execution of the office’s internal and external communications strategy. This role is responsible for crafting clear, compelling messaging that informs employees, engages the public, and highlights the impact of the CCSAO. The Communications Specialist will assist drafting internal communications to keep employees informed, implement proactive media campaigns, and draft press releases covering case updates and outcomes. Additional responsibilities include preparing press statements, writing and editing website content, and producing office newsletters and other publications. This is a highly collaborative role that requires excellent writing skills, strong news judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Experience in a newsroom, government, or communications agency setting is strongly preferred. Responsibilities & Duties Develop and implement communication strategies Write and edit press releases, speeches, newsletters, and other communications Manage and update content on the office’s website and social media platforms Coordinate media relations and respond to information requests from the media Organize and promote special events and conferences Develop and maintain strong relationships with media representatives Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies Draft internal communications and employee newsletters Collaborate with different departments to ensure consistent messaging Other duties as assigned Qualifications & Skills Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field Experience in media relations and public affairs Proven track record of managing successful communication campaigns Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong organizational and project management abilities Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and communication software Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team High level of attention to detail Minimum of 4‑5 years of experience in a related field EEO Message: The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO) is an equal opportunity employer, which seeks to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented people from a diverse candidate pool.
