Senior Public Health Nutritionist (SPHN) Pay Plan: Career Service Salary: $51,792.73 - $56,972.00

Responsibilities

Certify clients and identify nutrition risks based on assessment questionnaires, health data and history; assign food packages according to nutrition assessment and program criteria.

Provide breastfeeding education, support, and referrals.

Collect anthropometric data by conducting height/ stature and weight measurements; perform finger-stick hemoglobin testing for Women, Infants and Children participants.

Develop, document, and implement nutrition care plans based on nutrition needs and other current health plans; provide follow‑up and referrals as needed.

Provide WIC nutrition assessments and counseling on normal and therapeutic diets; conduct second nutrition education contacts for all families on record and high‑risk/medical clients.

Assist in ensuring proper clinic operations; perform supervisory functions, oversee clinic operations, resolve issues in supervisor’s absence.

Provide individual and group education sessions for clients and others as needed.

Submit required reports such as travel, People First, and Health Management System (HMS) within assigned timeframes.

Travel to other clinic locations within Hillsborough County as directed; perform duties delegated by the Senior Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor or Program Manager.

Translate documents and communications when fluent in another language.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal Women, Infants and Children Program policies and procedures.

Knowledge of current science and practice of food, nutrition, and dietetics; understanding of normal nutrition principles across the life cycle.

Ability to assess appropriate and effective feeding for women, infants and children.

Counsel using Value-Enhanced Nutrition Assessment (VENA) techniques.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Proficiency with computer and related tools (digital scale, balance scale, stature board, Hemocue machine, copier, telephone).

Computer skills: advanced use of Excel, Word, Outlook, and FL-WiSE.

Excellent customer‑service skills; maintain client confidentiality and effective working relationships.

Ability to lift and transfer all supplies required for job duties.

Qualifications Minimum

Bachelor of Science degree or master’s degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Home Economics with emphasis in Nutrition per WIC Federal Regulation, CFR, Title 7, Part 246.

Compliance with Chapter 468, Part X, Florida Statutes or eligibility to practice dietetics per Chapter 64B8‑40 to 45, Florida Administrative Code.

Valid State of Florida license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist issued by the Division of Medical Quality Assurance.

Preferred

Bi‑lingual English and Spanish or English and Creole proficiency.
