Residency Requirement Residence is a requirement for all positions. Applicants must provide ninety (90) days of continuous and uninterrupted residence in the City of Buffalo prior to filing the application.
Job Summary Responsible for the operation and maintenance of a large housing project, including various heating systems. Works independently under general supervision and exercises judgment in the absence of a Chief Housing Project Engineer. Hires, supervises, and directs subordinate personnel as required.
Responsibilities
Operate and maintain steam boilers, pumps, stokers, and related boiler room equipment.
Supervise boiler firing and removal of ashes, and conduct associated inspections.
Perform periodic inspections of boiler room and related equipment.
Assign or personally handle emergency mechanical, plumbing, steamfitting, and electrical repairs.
Prepare boilers for inspection.
Maintain daily log of operations.
Drive to and from various work sites as required.
Perform related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Current First Class Stationary Engineer's License issued by the City of Buffalo, presented at time of filing and maintained during employment.
Current New York State Driver's License, presented at time of appointment and maintained during employment.
Consent to screening requirements of the New York State License Event Notification Service (LENS).
Proof of education presented at time of appointment.
Possession of verifiable part‑time experience pro‑rated to full‑time experience requirements.
Examination The written test assesses knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas: reading and interpreting plans and specifications; operation, maintenance, and repair of steam‑generating systems and related mechanical and electrical equipment; operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, air‑conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; supervision.
