ProSidian Seeks a Senior Technical Editor located in The Hanford Tri-Cities Area (Kennewick | Pasco | Richland) to support an engagement for the US Dept. of Energy (DOE) Hanford in Eastern Washington (Tri-Cities - Kennewick | Pasco | Richland) Area.
Candidates shall work to support requirements as a Senior Technical Editor and develop, write, and edit material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures. This Staff Augmentation position supports the client's engineering organization. This position provides support and coordination in the preparation, development and writing of new or revised technical procedures or procedures for technical systems within the framework of the functional areas or division assigned.
This Staff Augmentation position supports the Nuclear Safety organization by editing and maintaining the electronic files for key Nuclear Safety documents. These key documents include the Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR) for Hanford, the hazard evaluation database reports for Hanford, and HNF-IP-1266 for Hanford. The review and approval of these documents will be managed through Smart Plant Foundation. Other technical documents (from Nuclear Safety and other Engineering organizations) may also be edited. The Senior Technical Editor will work with multiple Nuclear Safety Engineers and on occasion, engineers from other organizations. The Senior Technical Editor will also serve as a backup for the USQ Coordinator. Processing USQs through the database and ensuring USQs are appropriately assigned and completed in a timely manner.
- Assemble procedure developmental information for each new procedure into the electronic workflow including checklists, review comments, approvals, associated vendor manuals and other materials as required.
- Comply with wrps policies and procedures and ensure isms principles are incorporated into organization's activities
- Conduct regular and periodic reviews of existing procedures according to established site guidelines, in response to organizational, technical or administrative changes, or at management direction.
- Conducts physical walk-down of the system or facility location when appropriate.
- Develop, write, and edit material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures. This staff augmentation position supports the client's engineering organization.
- Develops source material, consults engineering, operations, maintenance, and technical staff and coordinates the preparation of required materials.
- Draft/revise administrative, operating, laboratory and maintenance procedures, descriptive manuals, data sheets, sketches and other documents to enable engineers, operators, technicians and other personnel to safely and correctly manage, operate and repair process systems and equipment.
- Ensures procedures are developed, reviewed, approved and distributed to appropriate personnel in accordance with the established approval process cycle. Ensures that technical and engineering documents such as vendor manuals, diagrams, charts, blueprints and standards are reviewed and accurately integrated into procedures.
- Maintain procedure change information in the electronic workflow including a change summary, review comments, approvals, checklists, and other materials as required.
- May participate in the establishment of procedure style guidelines and standards.
- May provide work leadership for lower level employees
- May represent the organization to internal groups and provide development-specific information to requesters.
- Obtain data from review of documentation, drawings, schematics and reports, consultation with technical staff members and by hands-on experience.
- Perform reviews of other peer or subordinate procedure writer's output, prior to formal review process, to ensure that procedures are accurate, reflect all necessary comments and complies with the generally accepted site procedure development practices, conventions and formats.
- Position supports the nuclear safety organization by editing and maintaining the electronic files for key nuclear safety documents.
- Provide support and coordination in the preparation, development and writing of new or revised technical procedures or procedures for technical systems within the framework of the functional areas or division assigned.
- Route and track procedures through all stages of the process cycle utilizing automated database and document tracking and retrieval systems. Expedites critical path procedures
- The senior technical editor may supervise and mentor less experienced writers, create style guides and manage documentation projects.
- Under general supervision researches, organizes, writes, edits, indexes, revises and produces technical data for documentation of greater scope and advanced technical complexity.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The Senior Technical Editor shall have Minimum of Ten (10) years of consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years, Must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/Power point) and related tools and technology required for the position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to provide superior writing, editing and formatting services.
- Accomplished in working with complex equations, styles and macros in Word along with experience in manipulating Adobe files.
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in related field and 5-10 years of related technical writing experience including proofing and editing (e.g. technical/procedure writing, Work Planning, Operations, Engineering, Field Work Supervisor, or Maintenance)
- Bachelors or Associates degree in English or equivalent field experience
- Experience working in a government environment using government procedures and documents.
- Impeccable writing, spelling, and grammar skills, and Technical Communications, or related field.
- Knowledgeable of Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Visio, Excel and Outlook) and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, & Adobe.
- Working knowledge of Smart Plant Foundation (SPF), SharePoint, the Hanford Integrated Database Management System (IDMS), and web page experience is desired.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience manipulating the Hanford Intranet is desired.
- Experience with USQ Coordinator duties is desired.
- Experience working with tank farms Nuclear Safety documents (DSAs, TSRs, hazard evaluation database reports) is desired.
- Experience working with the Nuclear Safety conventions for documents being transmitted to ORP for review is desired.
- Knowledge of Conduct of Operations and Human Performance Improvement
- Knowledge of database entry/analyses and record management, VISIO, and electronic workflows
- Previous Hanford experience is preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook Access)
- Smart Plant Foundation experience is desired.
- U.S. Citizenship Required
