WLTX-TV the CBS affiliate in Columbia, S.C is looking for a journalist to join our team as Anchor and Multi-skilled Journalist. The successful candidate for this position is dedicated to local storytelling and turning enterprise stories for newscasts. This person also has the instinct to follow-up on news tips, respond to breaking news in a timely manner and connects with community to develop contacts who reach out with news tips and leadable stories that are then developed for our broadcast, digital and social platforms. In this role, you'll be responsible for reporting and gathering content, anchoring our weekend newscasts, and fill-in anchoring on an as-needed basis. Strong writing skills and news judgment are a must. The desirable candidate also is a natural leader in our room; speaking up during editorial meetings, pitching unique story ideas gleaned from talking to people in the community and is a team player. Responsibilities: Anchor weekend newscasts and other newscasts to fill-in during the week as assigned Work with producers to create an engaging newscast, write and copy edit to improve all content every day. Generate unique, compelling and innovative story/show ideas and content Helps to craft creative segments and present them during newscasts Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills a must Is strategic about the use of social media for news gathering, developing contacts and community engagement Storytelling Contribute to multiple platforms on a daily basis including writing for the website, posting on social media, creating for mobile, and most of all creating a dialog with our audience and your friends and followers. Collaborate with a team to produce the most creative, compelling stories Develop contacts and relationships in the community Requirements: Journalism or Mass Communication degree with at least two-years of experience preferred Strong, natural on-camera delivery with the ability to ad-lib Excellent writing, packaging, and live skills Ability to shoot and edit stories Knowledge of Cuez (scripting) and Edius (editing) Ability to meet deadlines and work in high pressure situations TEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families.
