
Communications Specialist (Hybrid)

Salary Range
$57,262 to $77,292 ($27.53 to $37.16 per hour).
Position Description The Anoka County Communications Department mission serves as the county’s central resource for strategic messaging, public information, and internal communication. The department has an immediate opening for a Communications Specialist with background in design and creating accessible content. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include crafting print and digital content and collaborating with a team of communications specialists.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, hybrid position. Interviews will take place beginning the week of April 13th, 2026, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32: 57,262 to 77,292 ($27.53 to $37.16 per hour).

Work Location
This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303.
This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
Expected work hours are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Utilize design software and programs to create visually appealing print and digital materials, including logos, templated resources, and branding.
Create and design materials that maintain consistent branding for Anoka County programs, including fliers, brochures, magazines, newsletters, social media posts, website content, and video.
Write content and foster engagement through social media platforms and website content. Monitor audience engagement and utilize feedback to compile recommendations.
Build awareness and usage to non-users through creative engagement, presentations, communication, and programming. Educate staff on the creation of accessible print and digital materials.
Perform duties to promote county resources, programs, and events by understanding the needs of community members, collaborating with community-based organizations, and advocacy groups.
Evaluate data to identify cultural and demographic trends within Anoka County.
Assist in the coordination of events that inform and involve county residents in various aspects of county government.
Act as a liaison and point of contact for communications.
Qualifications and Requirements Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, marketing, communications, or a closely related field.
Two years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience in graphic design, UI/UX design, communications, or a closely related field.
In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
Experience using InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or other graphic design software.
Strong understanding of industry design principles.
Ability to learn, use, and teach website content management systems (CMS).
Understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Photography skills a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
Standard office environment.
Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness.
Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work.
Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
