DOWNTOWN RELATIONS AND OUTREACH COORDINATOR

Salary and Benefits
Hiring Salary (DOE): $23.56 – $31.34 per hour.

Position Summary The Downtown Relations and Outreach Coordinator supports the vitality of downtown Nampa by fostering external relationships, promoting business retention and community engagement, and supporting the day‑of production of Downtown Nampa Association events. The role coordinates with stakeholders such as the Downtown Nampa Association (DNA), Business Improvement District (BID), Chamber of Commerce, and public partners to implement strategies for redevelopment, outreach, and community programming. The Coordinator builds partnerships, supports volunteer efforts, and represents the City in high‑profile community activities to enhance economic prosperity and quality of life.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop and maintain relationships with downtown business owners, property owners, public officials, organizations, Chamber of Commerce, and the general public.
Coordinate and direct activities representing the City while partnering with DNA governing board, BID, and other community groups.
Provide site location assistance for businesses, including gathering data on available properties, preparing information packages, and coordinating assistance meetings.
Promote and retain downtown businesses through strategies for expansion and redevelopment; work with property owners to enhance retail and commercial spaces.
Support the Downtown Implementation Plan and collaborate on Main Street program efforts with Idaho Department of Commerce and other cities for accreditation.
Participate in meetings of community groups (e.g., BID, DNA, Chamber, committees); coordinate and promote economic development organizations.
Respond to citizens’ questions and comments courteously to build strong relationships and deliver citizen‑centric solutions.
Write, edit, and publish informational materials such as brochures, packets, newsletters, and flyers; recruit and manage volunteers or interns for these tasks.
Prepare and present information on downtown initiatives to government entities, committees, and stakeholders.
Identify and promote opportunities for business growth, workforce development, and community partnerships.
Promote and complete real‑time project tracking for the Nampa Development Corporation Downtown Incentive programs.
Coordinate with the Economic Development Analyst on the promotion and project management of Nampa AHPC initiatives (public art, historical/architectural design) that involve downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.
Support event execution, including day‑of tasks for community‑wide downtown events such as Third Thursdays, Christmas tree lighting, Downtown Trick or Treat, and all DNA‑sponsored events.
Work with DNA, Event Coordinator, and City staff to develop and implement an annual events calendar.
Coordinate regular volunteer efforts for downtown maintenance (cleaning streets, sidewalks, public spaces).
Support seasonal décor installation and takedown with volunteers and staff (flower baskets, pole banners, Christmas lighting).
Participate in and promote various community events and meetings to facilitate economic development goals.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Communicate professionally with diverse audiences, balancing stakeholder needs and adapting to shifting situations.
Cross‑train with the Economic Development Analyst to provide back‑up coverage for essential department functions.
Provide back‑up coverage for department functions as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, Community Development, or a related field; or 3–5 years of related experience in events, relations, or economic development.
Experience working with boards, volunteers, or community groups (1–3 years preferred).
Knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office and Internet tools.
Valid State of Idaho driver’s license.
Must pass background checks, drug testing, reference checks, criminal history, and driving record reviews.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Excellent interpersonal, public relations, and negotiation skills.
Strong event planning and volunteer coordination abilities; track record in community building and economic development promotion.
Capacity to build partnerships, drive engagement, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Strong written and oral communication skills for presentations, marketing materials, and relationship‑building.
Ability to exercise independent judgment, set timelines, meet deadlines, and adhere to City core values.
Resilient, adaptable, and action‑oriented with enthusiasm for community initiatives.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Mix of office‑based work and outdoor/field activities.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Finger dexterity sufficient to operate general office equipment and/or machinery.
Clear speech and hearing to communicate effectively.
Visual acuity sufficient to review a wide variety of materials and perform activities such as viewing a computer screen.
Physical strength and personal mobility sufficient to maneuver in and around an office environment.
