About The Role The director will support the creation and update of a holistic TA strategy, provide early-phase commercial insights to project teams, guide TA‑specific internal pipeline development and external licensing/acquisition opportunities, and help align strategy across Biomedical Research, Development, Strategy & Growth, and commercial units.
Key Responsibilities
Bring external benchmarking, analysis, insights, and judgement to support the TA Strategy Head in developing a holistic Novartis TA strategy that achieves sustainable growth in the short, mid, and long term.
Apply expertise in the pharmaceutical industry and the core Therapeutic Areas (Oncology & Hematology) to derive insightful and differentiating competitive advantages.
Provide key commercial insights to R&D project teams, particularly for early‑phase programs, using in‑market experience in the US.
Analyze reports and publications to extract key messages and build product forecasts.
Develop and deliver TA‑specific strategic external insights to identify growth opportunities, emerging competitive challenges, and support a third‑party view around key strategic levers; commission targeted primary research.
Essential Requirements
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent university degree) and/or experience in life science/healthcare preferred; MBA or consulting experience highly desirable.
In‑depth TA knowledge (or proven ability to acquire required expertise quickly) in Oncology and Hematology.
Highly agile, able to support multiple strategic activities within a TA and across several internal and external programs.
Substantial experience evaluating new product opportunities (through M&A, BD&L, and internal research programs).
At least 5–7 years of industry pharma and/or medical devices experience in R&D and/or commercial functions, with experience commissioning, conducting, and analyzing primary research.
Experience in strategy development and asset shaping early in lifecycle (any functional perspective).
Recent (post‑2015) local US in‑market experience, including working within the US market, with local customers and health care systems.
Compensation Summary The salary for this position is expected to range between $185,500.00 and $344,500.00 USD per year. The final salary offered is determined based on relevant skills and experience and will be reviewed periodically. Salary may be adjusted for company and market factors. Compensation includes a performance‑based cash incentive and, depending on the level, eligibility for annual equity awards.
