Corporate Development & Strategy MBA Intern
Wagmo, Inc., New York, NY, United States
About The Role
As a Corporate Development & Strategy Intern at Wagmo, you will work directly with the executive team on strategic initiatives and diligence projects that fuel our next phase of growth. This is a high-impact role for someone who loves diving deep into numbers and strategy and who also happens to be obsessed with their cat or dog. You’ll help evaluate partnerships, potential acquisitions, and adjacent market opportunities within the massive and growing pet industry, translating research and analysis into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership.
Location: This is a hybrid internship based in NYC; interns must be willing and able to work in-office at least three days per week.
Core Responsibilities
Support market and competitive research across pet, benefits, insurance, and adjacent categories to identify strategic opportunities
Build and refine financial models including unit economics, synergy cases, pro forma projections, and scenario analyses
Assist with target sourcing by building and prioritizing lists of potential partners, acquirers, or acquisition targets, and developing outreach materials
Help run diligence workstreams: coordinating data requests, conducting analysis, documenting findings, and synthesizing results into clear takeaways
Create executive-ready memos, presentations, and briefing materials summarizing insights, risks, and strategic recommendations
Track key deals and workstreams, helping keep timelines, stakeholders, and deliverables organized across the team
What You’ll Need To Be Successful
Currently enrolled in an MBA program or a recent MBA graduate
Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with the ability to build clean, well-structured models from scratch
Clear, structured writing and the ability to synthesize complex information into concise executive-ready deliverables
High ownership and sound judgment: you can take a fuzzy question and produce a crisp, well-reasoned output with minimal hand-holding
Interest in M&A, corporate development, strategy, startups, or the pet/healthcare/benefits space
Familiarity with or enthusiasm for leveraging AI tools in market research, data synthesis, or financial modeling (e.g., using LLMs for research summaries or scenario analysis)
Bonus: prior experience with valuation, investment banking, private equity, consulting, growth stage consumer, or SQL
Why Consider This Role?
Pet spending in the U.S. has reached $200 billion and the category is still early in its lifecycle. Wagmo is building the platform to lead it. This is a rare chance to work on real corporate development at a company where the strategy you shape today defines the industry tomorrow.
You won’t be fetching coffee or building decks no one reads. You’ll have direct exposure to real strategic decisions and deal evaluation, working directly with the CEO and senior leaders who give feedback on your models, memos, and executive storytelling.
Wagmo is a female-founded, Inc. 5000 recognized company where performance matters more than pedigree. The team is exceptionally smart, curious, and kind, led by transparent and low-ego leadership. We take the work seriously and never take ourselves too seriously.
Key Benefits
Mentorship from CEO and senior leadership with direct feedback on your work
Pet-friendly NYC office
