Seasonal Playground Director

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide supervision and instruction for children participating in summer playground program. This is accomplished by effectively instructing and supervising playground participants and playground aides. Assisting with the evaluation of the program; maintaining open communication with the Program Coordinator; developing a system of recordkeeping for attendance and activity fees; evaluating playground aides and effective enforcement of the City of York Policies and Procedures by meeting with aide to discuss violation and create and document action plan to correct the violation and reporting all violations with Program Coordinator and Recreation Specialist; attending and participating in orientation and training for the summer playground program; developing and participating in effective program plans, including games, crafts, field trips, and special events for Summer Playground Program in consultation with the Program Coordinator and Recreation Specialist; monitoring lunch program; and assuring that equipment and facilities are safely and properly prepared and maintained for use by program participants and staff. Other duties include instructing and participating with children in physical and mental challenges, arts, and crafts projects; providing educational opportunities, including exercise, providing a safe atmosphere, promoting imagination and play, and developing and improving social skills; and assisting in providing nutritional opportunities through lunch program. Essential Functions

Provides organized and structure play by coordinating and participating in active and sedentary games; requesting and maintaining recreational equipment. providing board games, physical games, arts, and crafts that promote physical and mental stimulation; providing educational activities that promote creativity; organizing and participate in various sporting activities, such as basketball, kickball, and group competitions; and supervising participants. Manages and oversees Park Program by providing direction and supervision to playground aides, making recommendations to Program Coordinator; maintaining records of attendance for staff and campers; implementing procedures for accidents, incidents, and discipline; providing first aid; and ensuring the safety and well-being of campers, and staff. Participate in field trips and educational opportunities by providing supervision to youth to ensure safe environment; instructing and assisting youth as they engage in field trip experience; accounting for any activity fees; monitoring transportation and field trip schedule in communication with Program Coordinator; promoting camper involvement in the overall experience; and evaluating field trip experience. Other duties as assigned by Program Coordinator or Recreation Specialist Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
