Mascot Engagement Specialist
Under general supervision, engages with the community at City sponsored events while wearing a mascot costume. Essential Functions
Wears Recreation mascot costume at small-scale events, indoor and outdoor concerts, large outdoor festivals, and smaller family events. Displays enthusiasm and high energy at all times. Maintains mascot persona whenever in costume. Meets and greets attendees of events. Demonstrates knowledge of human behavior to read situations (when to approach or leave a situation, how to physically engage situations in an appropriate manner without using voice). Maintains proper use and secures costume when not in use. Assists with event set-up and tear-down. Complies with City and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education/Experience: Must be at least 15 years of age. Previous mascot experience is a plus. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of human behavior and know when to approach or disengage. Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department. Knowledge of maintaining efficient event operations. Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing. Skill in dealing tactfully and effectively with the public. Ability to wear mascot costume and maintain mascot persona during events. Ability to lift and wear the mascot costume. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays, or flexible schedules. Ability to work well with others. Ability to read human behavior and know when to approach or disengage. Ability to react quickly and accurately to changing weather elements. Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations. Licensing/Certification Requirements: May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires. Physical and Mental Requirements: While performing the essential functions of this job the employee must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, lift, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. The employee will be subject to both indoor and outdoor conditions including extreme heat while wearing a costume. Testing Procedures
Examinations may include but are not limited to application screening beyond minimum qualifications; written, oral, practical exercise or any combination thereof or other job related assessment deemed appropriate by Human Resources.
