About the Position: A Recreation Specialist is responsible for developing and supervising a variety of adaptive and inclusive recreation programs. This position works under general supervision of the Community Services Program Coordinator at an assigned Recreation Facility or Recreation Program. Duties may include planning, organizing, developing, promoting, and supervising a recreation activity, or providing general supervision for an assigned recreation facility and its respective part-time staff. Part-time employees work an average of 20 hours per week and are assigned to varied work shifts, including weekends. What You'll Be Doing Here

Experienced in recreation or special event programming, they are dependable, flexible, and committed to delivering high-quality community programs in a safe and welcoming environment. A typical day as a Recreation Specialist at CID may include: Provide courteous and timely customer service to the public and City staff Lead and instruct recreational and special interest programs Maintain attendance, discipline, and activity reports Inspect facilities and equipment for safety and maintenance needs Coordinate supplies and adapts programs to meet community needs What You Need to Qualify
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school. Minimum of one (1) year paid or two (2) years of volunteer experience as a primary instructor in social and cultural activities or in the development of special events programs. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two (2) years. Must be 18 years of age or older. Knowledge of: Rules and skills involved in specialized recreational activities; Objectives and methods of recreational programs; Techniques of organizing group social and recreational activities; Effective teaching techniques of all age groups or special populations; Group psychology and community organizations. Ability to: Lead groups and individuals in recreational activities; Instruct groups and individuals in various sports, games, cultural or other recreational activities; Express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing; Follow oral and written instructions; Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with all those contacted in the course of work; Transport materials and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds; See in the normal visual range, with or without correction; Hear in the normal audio range, with or without correction; Work indoors and out in a variety of environmental conditions.
