
Camp Lifeguard (Seasonal)

Description
The Lifeguard position at Camp Lowe, under the direct supervision of the Waterfront Director, creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, beach, and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
This is a summer seasonal position with a start date of June 29th going through August 28th. Shifts will be between the hours of 7:00am to 5:30pm Monday-Friday. Please let us know your availability when filling out your application!
Essential Functions
Maintains active surveillance of the waterfront area.
Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required.
Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the waterfront and aquatic area.
Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
Check the waterfront for hazardous conditions when arriving.
Commit to working at least 8 weeks of camp. If you need time‑off, it MUST be approved prior to hiring.
Ensure the safety of campers and staff while in the waterfront areas.
Prepare, maintain, and breakdown the beach/swim areas daily.
Alert Waterfront Director or Camp Director of any dangerous situations.
Administer first‑aid and CPR as necessary.
Abide by all rules, policies, and procedures established by the Montachusett YMCA in the Staff Handbook, and elsewhere as directed by YMCA Administration – including internet / cell phone policy.
Represent the YMCA and the community both on and off the clock.
Always be on time and in complete uniform.
Other duties as assigned by the Waterfront Director or Camp Director.
Qualifications
Minimum age of 16
Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, and first aid.
Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent Waterfront Lifeguard Certification
Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date
Ability to maintain certification‑level physical and mental readiness.
Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
Job Type Seasonal
Schedule 40+ hours per week.
Pay $18.00/hr for new hires, $18.50/hr for returning seasonal lifeguards with 1 year employment history, $19.00 for returning seasonal lifeguards with 2+ years of employment history. Plus, access to YMCA facilities for all YMCA Employees & Employee Assistance Program available.
